summer clearance

I went out shopping today, mainly to look at the curtains and rugs JCPenney had on sale.  While I didn’t find anything in their home department, I took advantage of their end of summer clearance.  Here’s what I got:

Gap
boys button up shirt (reg 19.50)  4.97

Belk
womens pajama pants (24.00) 7.19
earrings (20.00) 2.99
girls shorts (18.00) 2.39
girls sandals (15.00) 1.79

JCPenney
3 – three package of boys baseball shirts (9 shirts total, 29.99 each pack) 2.49 each
boys Buzz Lightyear t-shirt (11.99) 1.48
boys Spiderman t-shirt (missing shorts, 24.99) 2.49
boys collared golf shirt (16.99) 2.49
mens Nike UNC basketball shorts (24.00) 2.49

Children’s Place
girls denim ruffle skirt with adjustable waist (24.99? tag missing) 3.49
boys adjustable baseball hat (5.50) 1.99

Retail price: 294.93 Total spent: 41.23 Percentage saved: 86%

This is how I normally shop. I buy stuff ahead of time for the following year. Paying retail is not something I do.

Have you found any great end of summer clearance sales?

  1. I didn’t do major shopping today, but I did pick up a nice pair of Sketcher’s shoes for me for $14.99 (regular price $55).

I like to buy a year ahead for my kids, too. It’s getting harder to do with my daughter though. She’s at that age where she has growth spurts and practically skips sizes, and her preteen body is changing, and things just fit differently than they used to.

dollar general is having a 70% off sale on spring/summer items. i bought a ton of adorable fisher price outfits for my twin daughters to wear next year. i’ve bought the fisher price clothes before and they wash up beautifully!!! the most expensive outfit was a little white full skirt with a teal top and a matching little purse…$2.10. i bought really cute capri sets for $1.00-$1.50…dressy sundresses for $1.20….t-shirts with cute cheerleading print on front for $.90. they’re all set for next year!!!

Thanks for the tips. I had a bad experience at Dollar General about a month ago. The sign said 70% off and had the price that it would be, but the stuff was not ringing up the right price at the register. I’ll have to go back and try it again.

I’m having a HUGE yard sale tomorrow. I have about 6 totes of girl clothes to get rid of. Too bad you can’t come.

i know what you mean with the prices not always ringing up right. the other day i was in the store and purchased about 10 boxes of snack crackers that were supposed to be half off. it wasn’t until after i paid that i realized she charged full price. when i went for the refund the head clerk told the girl she had to hit the half off key. it worked out well though this evening. i guess the stores are having a contest with the clerks as to who sells the most clearance items. my guy was thrilled because he rang up 22 from me. lol…hope he gets a monetary prize.

What great finds!! I would love to know if the baseball shirts you found was the kind where the shirt part is one color and the sleeves are 3/4 length and a different color. My boys love those and I can’t find them when I want them.

amazon.com has a great deal going on. when you apply for an amazon credit card, you get $30.00 credit on your first purchase. i bought the following items: “candy land”; “pretty, pretty princess dress-up board game”; “hasbro monopoly here and now”; “classic arcade astroids”; “disney cars:later mater game”; “hello kitty fortune finder”; and a “videonow pvd”. with the hasbro games, if you buy two you get the monopoly game free. candy land was on sale for $4.00 with a two dollar rebate. i also got free shipping. after all the discounts and the $30.00 credit, my entire order will have cost $3.39. i love getting great deals like this for pre- christmas shopping!!!!
