Move over Black Friday, the competition is getting fierce. Wal-Mart has just announced that it won’t be waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to start their Christmas sales. Wal-Mart is now unleashing their blockbuster deals.
Starting today, Wal-Mart is offering an Acer Laptop with a 14-inch LCD screen for $348, a Sanyo 50-inch plasma HDTC for $998, Fisher-Price Nascar riding toy car for $144.72, HD DVD’s for $14.96, and a Toshiba HD-DVD player for $98.87.

Some of you may be shocked by this, but I still use a desktop computer. I really like how fast my computer is and I’m afraid to get into some of the problems I’ve seen with some laptops, but I’m really starting to have a need for the convenience they offer. I think I might check out this laptop deal Wal-Mart is offering. Of course, it certainly beats standing in line at 11 pm on Thanksgiving night, only hoping that you might be one of the lucky ones to get a deal.
So what do you think about Wal-Mart’s sales tactics?

I think this is quite interesting. I wonder if this will really boost their sales any.
i think it’s a wonderful idea. i would think that it would help to keep sales up adn steady rather than a large spurt only after thanksgiving. it’s a real perk to be able to shop for the great deals when the crowdds are at a minimum. will you be keeping us posted on upcoming deals?
I think it’s a great idea for selfish reasons. I hate large crowds and will only go shopping the day after Thanksgiving if it were a screamin deal. I am always looking for a deal, this way I can look for a deal every day until Thanksgiving.
Black Friday schmack schiday. Nothing is thriftier than avoiding it all and observing “Buy Nothing Day”
I still use a desktop too. Since I have young children, it is much easier for them to damage a laptop than a desktop.
As for the Acer that is on sale, you should see what the specs are before you run out and buy it. WalMart usually offers bottom of the line computer technology, so do some research. For example, for Windows Vista it is highly recommended to have at least 2G of ram, but when my husband was looking at laptops, most only offered 512 mb or 1G, which is one quarter to HALF the recommended amount. Most cheap laptops are configured at the minimum requirements and that can lead to sluggish performance.
I’m not surprised about WalMart. The more sales they have, the more people buy. That is why retailers keep pushing the Christmas season further and further back.
Acer is not a good computer at all!! I had one and it was worthless! Just wanted to let you know before you put your hard earned money into it! Hubby (who is a web developer/computer geek) agrees!
