Frugal spending should be done wisely with a thrifty mindset – not a guilty heart all the time

I love hearing from other frugal overachievers on their struggles.  Mine is eating out.  I struggle with this as others do.  I don’t particularly like to clean, so cooking every night means cleaning the kitchen every night.  Don’t look at me as lazy.  Ok, you can because I have to admit it.

But there is another, wiser than I, who struggles with the same thing as my dear, sweet husband.  TECHNOLOGY!!!  My DH struggles with wanting the latest and greatest in all forms of technology.  But it looks like JD from Get Rich Slowly, I just love that name, has been wanting a new iPod and he bit the bullet and did it.  Good job.  The biggest killer of thrifty living and frugal spending is totally killing your desire for new things.  The success to thrifty living and frugal spending is making those new purchases with cash and not credit when available and determining if you want it or you need it.  That was my grandma used to ask.

I will say this, though.  Keep in mind that with the new models coming out, the old iPods will go on sale.  Now would be a great time to get one of the older models.  Keep up the good work, JD and don’t feel guilty.  Every once in a while you deserve a splurge just like my dear husband does.  I just hope your wife doesn’t give you the guilty shoulder like I do to mine sometimes.  Note:  He doesn’t deserve it.

My hubby likes to have technology gadgets too. I don’t see the need in it all, but I will give him credit; he tries to find them on ebay used and he gets a good deal.

DH loves electronics but is good about waiting for price reductions, etc. I really appreciate that! We all have our spending battles, and I agree that if you are TOO strict on yourself, your desire to spend money is going to be stronger. It’s similar to a diet. I NEVER go on a diet because when I think that word, all I want to do is eat!!!! Instead, I just eat less and don’t say I’m on a diet. Mind games :)
