Great ways to get nail polish out of your carpet

Karen did a great post on thrifty stain removers.  Tam asked how to get nail polish out of her carpet.  I was reminded of when I used to work at Sally Beauty Supply.  Someone spilled acetate on the commercial tile floor.  It ate right through the floor and we had to get someone in to refinish the floor later that week.  But I did remember people coming in to ask  how to get nail polish out of a lot of different materials so I went and rounded up a list of great ways to get nail polish out of different types of materials.

  • Carpet - Use nail polish remover to blot the nail polish out.  Using too much will eat through the backing.  Wash the spot with a mild detergent and warm water after that.
  • Clothing - Determine the type of material and then use the appropriate nail polish remover.
  • Upholstery - Use nail polish remover and warm water.

Hydrogen peroxide works as well for removing nail polish and blood.
