How Much is Gas Your Way?

December 3, 2008 by Karen Weideman

It was just two months ago that we were paying $4 per gallon for gas.  And it hurt to fill up our tank.  As food prices continued to soar, it seemed as though there was no end in sight.

Finally, we are seeing some relief.  Gas is around $1.70-1.80/gallon, depending on which part of NC I’m in at the time.

I’m wondering . . . how much is gas your way?  Isn’t it nice that it costs 50%+ less to fill up our tanks?

I live in Hamlet, NC and gas by our house is $1.67. One quick question- if prices went up because gas went up why aren’t prices going down as gas goes down?

  2. Celeste says:

Gas is around $1.69 here in MN. It’s so nice to pay 50% less on gas. I was spending around $50 on gas for my minivan. I just hope prices stay low for a long while.

  3. We’re at about $1.70 here in Orlando. A great place to shop around for gas is at http://gasbuddy.com. They’ve got maps and everything.

  4. Heather says:

We’re down to $1.55, plus we get a 10 cent discount for buying groceries at Smith’s. I paid under $20 to fill up my whole tank last week. It was around $50 at the worst before. We are really enjoying the release of the strain on our budget because of the gas prices.

We’re in northern virginia and the cheapest station in our area has gas for $1.85.

last I was out (Sunday, lol) i saw it for 1.70 in raleigh, nc

Courtney: Those are my thoughts and that’s actually what I was going to write about next. That will probably be tomorrow’s article.

  8. Laura Cooley says:

    Seattle is right around $1.96.

  9. Andrea says:

I’m in Columbus, Ohio, and I’ve seen and bought gas at $1.58. :)

I read about the grocery price increase somewhere a couple weeks ago, and the article said that food prices tend to be “sticky”–once they go up, they don’t come back down. Part of that is because the prices can’t fluctuate with every change in cost, so they remained low for a while after gas prices rose.

  10. Kelli says:

In Fairfield County, Connecticut, it’s $1.82 for regular.

  11. Kristen says:

Around $1.56 here. And one place right across from other stations still has there’s at $2.15 for some reason! It’s always dead there :)

Perfect timing for us, we’ve been driving home to visit family for the holidays quite often.

We just paid $1.37 for our gas in VA. I was just fixing to post this one, Karen. Glad we think alike.

  13. marye says:

Karen- I paid 1.28 a gallon the other day but I had a discount from buying groceries..still, a few months ago it was costing 75.00 to fill up the van and now it is at 25.
Of course, groceries have gone up significantly so I suppose things are balancing out!

  14. Sandra says:

    Hey,
Here in Notasulga,AL. gas was $1.67 when I filled up this morning. I was wondering about why grocery prices aren’t dropping too :)

  15. Michelle says:

Here in NW Arkansas, I saw $1.45 tonight. I feel pretty happy about that – especially seeing some of the other prices around the country.

  16. Alyssa says:

I live in Buffalo, Ny…last week it was around $2.18, this week (well, today..) it’s $2.08
    you are all lucky!!
