It Still Hasn’t Sold :(

my house 3 my house 1

My beautiful home has been on the market for over two months and only two people have come to look at it!  :sigh:  This really stinks!  In the meantime, I’m stuck making payments for the house, insurance (which went up $70), taxes, and utilities.  This really, really stinks!

What’s even worse is that we finally found the house we want.  In all of our married life we have never found a house that we want more.  We found a totally remodeled 1920s farmhouse.  It is big and beautiful!  It has a big deck and a nice fenced in area for the kids to play in.  It has 4 bedrooms, an office, an eat in kitchen, dining room, and huge closets which would make a great hide out area for the kids.

We’re just praying about it.  All I can do is to leave it in God’s hands.  Sometimes that’s hard to do though, huh?

I know that two months sounds like a long time, especially since you have found a new home that you love, but it really isn’t.
I do know how you feel though. I’ve been going through this since April, when I found a home that was almost in foreclosure. My husband and I though it was very nice, especially since I would be able to walk to work. The way that the sale was conducted, we never were able to even make a bid on it.
We found another home that we loved even more, and I thought that it would suit our family which includes two older sons. We decided that we could afford the asking price, called the realtor, and drove an hour to his office to make an offer. The bank supposedly had just accepted an offer from someone else. We were so disapointed.

Then, in August, the house next door to my dear friend came on the market. I won’t bore you with all of the details, but I truly believe that God had this house in mind for us. I can walk to school where I teach first grade. It has a pool, jacuzzi, four bedrooms, and a small pond/stream. One of the bedrooms is on the main floor, so it someone gets sick and needs to avoid stairs arrangements can be made. We are working hard to get things back in order, but I believe that God had this in mind for out family.

I just pray now that I can find ways to help people and glorify God in this new dwelling.

I SO feel for you! We put our house up for sale at the beginning of May and had one look-through for all of May and one in June, and finally got an offer in July after our realtor decided to get creative with the buying realtor incentives (email me if you want more details) just to get people into the house. Pain in the rear!

I feel your pain. This economy stinks! We are going to need a bigger place and can afford it with the prices the way they are, but we wouldn’t be able to sell our current house. IT is very frustrating. My husband would like to put the house up this spring and see how it does. We will see what happends. Good luck!

    Karen,
I’m so thankful for your website that as a licensed realtor, though the market is poor I wanted to offer some knowledge *please disregard if this offends* I would make sure that your realtor is doing all they can to market your house listings on trulia.com/realtor.com, even craigslist if you have one locally using the virtual tour option, loads of pictures. As well make sure the house is priced competitively for your area. Though with this market all homes will take longer. As well if you have the option add a 1year warranty to the home, i’ve found that helps listings as well. GOOD LUCK!!

I feel your pain! My house has been for sale since June 9 – yes June 9 and we have only had one showing and one open house. We had another scheduled and they canceled the day before, it was so frustrating. I specifically did not look at houses in the new area because I did not want to fall in love with anything. I just looked enough to know that there was a decent-enough selection to find something when this one sold because I do NOT want to be stuck with two houses – especially in this economy. The waiting game sucks, but as a glass-is-half-full girl, I figure I am 5 months ahead of the people who put their house on the market today!

Ginny: Congrats on finding a great house. The one we like is under foreclosure right now. I guess that explains the great asking price.

  7. Karen says:

Gina: Thanks for the tips. We chose our realtor because she is known for being “aggressive”. She has our home listed in the magazines and on the internet, with a virtual tour. We just pray that things move along a little quicker. I’m tired of sinking money into this house!

Keep in mind that every dollar you put to the principle each month will come back to you. I know you don’t want to pay the interest but you are still going to get a small fraction of each payment back when you DO sell the house.

  9. SP says:

Fingers crossed for you… really! We are going through the same thing. DH has been transferred and we can’t go until the house sells. And our transfer involves leaving one country and going to another. Here’s to a prosperous 2009! But what will be will be is the only way I can look at it. Don’t even ask how long ours has been on the market. :(

  10. Kelly: That might normally be the case, but our interest is going up in January, along with our payment. Our payment will increase $200 a month. I pray it sells soon!
