It’s Big Outside Clean Up Day

I’m excited to start planting. I love the promise of a clean patch of dirt and seeds, plants or bulbs. I did get some broccoli in the ground and my blueberry bush but there’s work to be done. Before I get to any of the fun stuff I have to do our annual big backyard cleanup. Lots of downed branches and lots of leaves are littering our lawn.  It’ll probably take the better part of the day to get everything piled and bagged but the end result will be worth it.

You know what I wish I had though? A mulcher or chipper shredder. I’d love to throw all those leaves and branches in and get some much in return. It’s on my “one day” list.

How are you spending your Saturday?

I’m going to be spending this Saturday sleeping! Or lounging by the pool. Taking the day off.

I just got back from the garden store with bags of mulch (just to get me started until the big drop off) and two baskets of pansies to plant.

I think those of us in harsh climates love spring like those in the southeast and Texas never could.

    Enjoy your day!

We went to the zoo’s free day =) but I want to know more about growing blueberries…are they hard to grow?? It’s probably still too cold here but I’m curious how it’s working out for you…

@inthebuff – If anyone deserves a day in the pool it’s you. Hope it was a good one.

@Sandy – I love watching everything turn green. Yesterday was the first “no jacket” day of the year and it felt wonderful. I think the weather was worse for you than us, but there’s something about spring that just wakes me up.

@DramaMama – This is my first blueberry bush, so I’ll keep you posted. They grow well in my zone (5) and need lots of sunlight. We planted strawberries last year and those are totally taking over the veggie patch.

  5. I spent my Saturday moping around and feeling blue. We’ve been through a lot of emotions the past few days and hubby was working on our family day. I was not a happy person.

Tonight I finished the long procrastinated task of itemizing the taxes. Given our occupations, it is such a tedious and painful task. But it is done and I am excited to drop these off tomorrow at the accountant’s office.

I spent my Saturday half-heartedly cleaning house. That night we went to the circus! We sat right up front, and my husband got pulled up into the ring as a volunteer. I was more embarrassed than he was! Sunday my daughter and I went to Zoo Weekend. This Saturday I have to work my daughter’s softball concessions, and then I hope to take her to our city’s Kids Fest if I am not too tired. And Sunday I’m going to watch the return of Desperate Housewives! Woo hoo! Finally!
