You know, I actually am going throught that very process right now. My wife and I did the same method as you. We each went through the 1001 baby names book and wrote down our favorites and then made a list from those (I think the list was 3 long for each boy and girl). In the end we compromised on the girl first name and the boy middle name, but I think we'll be happy with it either way. Still don't know which we'll use or if we panic at the last minute and change. We'll see soon!

P.S. I forgot to include . . . if my 2nd child was a girl, we were going to name the baby Lillian. I just liked the name, it wasn't a popular name, it didn't sound trendy or like a Barbie should have it (lol), and then later I found it was a family name.

Deciding on names was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. After all, the kid will have to live with their name for the rest of their life.

I love hearing how people reach decisions about names. Sometimes it's so complicated trying to ensure that the first name doesn't clash with the last name or that the initials don't spell something unfortunate!
Cheers

[...] Ruby - I had an aunt that used to bring my daddy oranges from Florida, and they called her Orange Ruby (her name was Ruby, duh). But we actually came up with the name because 1-it was old (one of our must-haves, in naming) and 2-I hadn’t heard it used lately. Grace and Jacob were both the number one names the year they were born and it always bugs me when that happens. I was determined for that not to happen with Ruby. Her middle name was to be Kate, but we chose Jane when our Grandmother died the month before Ruby was born. Ironically, Jane hated the name Ruby, and she admonished us in our choice. I think it would tickle her to know that we placed those names together despite her feelings on the name (or should I say in spite of ). My goodness I miss her and her spunky self. So there you go. Thanks for tagging me Karen! [...]
