Thrifty Mommy

Kids will continue to teach parents on a daily basis.

Ever wonder why God gives us kids?  I do every day when I try to teach my daughter something and she teaches me something back.  I thought we were supposed to be the teachers?  Last night, my daughter gently reminded me that routine is critical to happiness.  We had stayed at a friend’s house too late and she fell asleep in the car on the way home.  When I got her inside, I decided to let her sleep in her clothes instead of waking her up to change her into her pajamas.  I knew better than this and she reminded me twice why.

See, my darling little girl likes her PJ’s.  So here was her reminder that she needs her routine to make everyone happy.  I got her in the bed at 9:30.  She never woke up from the car.  At 12:30, she woke up unhappy and exhausted.  I got her back in the bed and asleep.  At 1:45 she woke up again and her daddy tried to get her to go back to sleep.  I changed her out of her jeans and got her into her PJ’s.  She slept until 7:45 this morning.

See, it’s all about the routine of what to sleep in.  She does that to me every time I try to be nice and let her sleep in whatever she falls asleep in.  It never works.  Whenever I go ahead and change her, then she sleeps fine.  If I leave her in day clothes, she wakes up multiple times a night.

I thought you might like to hear about a little night’s romp around the nursery and how kids teach us every day to be consistent with how we treat them.  Thanks to Holly at Holly’s Corner Blog, I was reminded that we still have so much to learn from our kids.

  1. Thanks for the nice jolt! I am constantly amazed at the lessons my kids teach me. I find I’m resistent to the biggest ones like patience! LOL

Well, add another item to the list of the genius. To quote the famous Captain Jack Sparrow with one minor edit, “There’ll be no living with [him] after this.”

Thanks to all of you wonderful readers and bloggers, who are now many add…
