Lunchables on Sale at Food Lion

I normally don’t buy my child expensive lunches such as lunchables, however, they are on sale this week at Food Lion. The normal price of the Lunchables is $1.99, but they are on sale for $1. I bought a few this week and when I did, the register printed out a coupon for them. I went back later and bought a few more and it printed out another coupon. Alligator girl was thrilled to have something different in her lunch.
By the way, the Lunchables website has some games on there that you kids can play. That’s good marketing on their part, huh?
Please check your local Food Lion, as prices may vary by location. Image from Kraft.

Excellent! I’m surprised you let her eat them though. I thought I was the only one who let their kids eat junk food.
EEww!!To me, Lunchables are a disgusting “food” that I would not eat myself, no matter what the price, even if they were free, and I certainly would not feed them to my . Take a few moments to read the label! And, I’ve always felt the intense processing and packaging of that little dab of food that is not only bad for human consumption, but not real good on the planet either.
Developing bodies and brains need real food to develop properly, be healthy and remain healthy. What we feed our kids has a direct impact in their health, energy level, lifelong eating habits and indirectly, our medical bills as well as their medical bills when they grow up. There are so many good, healthy and affordable foods out there to choose from, why compromise?
My kids do not drink soda, kool-aid, or other sugary drinks. They eat fruit, yogurt, and other healthy foods. It’s not like I’m feeding her lunchables every day. I can tell you though, I certainly don’t appreciate being blasted publicly on my own blog. Good thing my husband didn’t respond to this. He wouldn’t have been as nice as me.
OK, my turn to weigh in. Ha ha. I can’t resist.
CONFESSION TIME … My kid gets Lunchables every day. When we are not doing Lunchables, he gets a hot dog.
Along with this, I put in fruit and a dessert.
And a love note.
At home he eats tons of fruit and yogurt like Karen’s kids — and rice and mac and cheese and of all things, boiled eggs an cheese sticks.
That is what the kid eats.
Do I feel guilty?
No. He is a healthy weight. I would rather that he get some protein in him than none at all. So I resoft to giving him the protein I can find that he’ll eat. The kid won’t even eat peanut butter. Talk about a mom’s worst nightmare.
I wish I had a Food Lion here in KY because I would be THERE for that special. Wow, what a deal. Good for you, Karen.
One more thing on this … When I was 4 the only thing I ate were hot dogs because that’s the only thing I WOULD eat. My mom took me to the pediatrician in desperation. He said to her, “Is she eating?” “Yes.” “Then be glad she’s eating. Let her eat hot dogs. Eventually she’ll be willing to eat other things.”
We put foods out for my kid all the time and encourage him to try all of it. On Sunday we went to an Indian restaurant. He fussed about the curry but you know what … we are exposing him to the entire world, feeding him what he will eat and not scolding him. We exercise as a family and no, I have no guilt whatsoever that he gets Lunchables.
(Oh by the way, I tried to get him to buy lunches at school to expose him to more foods but the kid complained that he wanted to bring his lunch like everyone else. So there ya go.)
Karen, you rock. I love your blog.
PS, sorry about the typos. I am using my husband’s laptop today and my fingers aren’t flying like normal.
Please, don’t put your opinion on a PUBLIC blog for the entire world to see and expect to not have different points of view voiced!! Get real! Blogs ARE public and not everyone in the public happens to share you opinion.
If you can’t handle differing points of view, please don’t call in your hubby to settle the score (cause it seems like you feel the need the threaten based on that strange and very inappropriate comment which I am considering reporting as abuse), but perhaps do chose a more private venue to blather your opinion.
Wow.
I have a little happy pill that evens me out every day — maybe you should look into that, too.
She wasn’t threatening you — she was expressing frustration that you felt the need to hurl a dart at her, and frankly I don’t blame her for standing up to the snarky comments.
One thing that really burns me up about the internet is that people can print hurtful comments with no thought to the other person’s feelings. You started this by attacking her decision to feed her kid Lunchables. No wonder she lashed out. Any mom out there whose judgment is questioned would do the same. Moms need to stick together and support each other, not blast each other publicly.
You know, there are more important things in life than the need to feel superior over the rest of us.
Check out Matthew 7:1 when you get a chance. You might find it interesting.
Bette: This was not an opinion post. It was not asking for a debate on if you feed your kids lunchables or how you feel about it. This blog provides information about sales, finances, and saving money which is what I was doing. I could also post about getting a free subscription to Field & Stream magazine. That doesn’t mean I’m looking for a debate on fishing. I’m not looking to discuss if fishing is a waste of time or harm to the environment.
My comment back to you was not a threatening comment to you and I’m pretty sure you know that. My husband has all kinds of smart answers and sarcastic comments for rude behavior. I don’t need him to defend me on here. I can hold my own.
You’re right. This is a blog though and people can express their opinions. We do have freedom of speech in this country, but that doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want and not have consequences or negative responses.
You have the right to disagree, but you could have done it in a nice way. You could have said, “That’s a great sale price, but I don’t care for those things because I feel they’re full of preservatives. I’ve had luck with feeding my kids these healthier alternatives.” If you were trying to get me to see your side of things, you would have made a lot more progress with suggestions and being nice than to attack me with your snarky and rude comments.
My favorite part:
***I have a little happy pill that evens me out every day — maybe you should look into that, too.***
OH SNAP!
Karen,
There’s NO need to respond to anonymous commenters. There’s a reason why people that usually have snarky comments NEVER leave their email address or blog address.
To those kind of people, just IGNORE and DELETE them.
Keep on doing what you’re doing. We LOVE your blog and greatly appreciate all the information, deals and more you post.
I’m not even in NC anymore and I fondly remember shopping at Food Lion so, I love hearing about my favorite store when I lived there.
Have a great week my friend. Keep your head up!
Yes, being the blogger does give me the privilege of the delete button. I am trying to work this out though.
And I’ll head to bed with one of my favorite quotes from the movie “Runaway Bride” . . .
“May you find yourselves the bulls eye of an easy target, may you be publicly flogged for all of your bad choices, and may your noses be rubbed in all of your mistakes.”
Ok Bette…
1-you have NO personal link to take this PRIVATE, so you want it public, you’ve got it!
2-the same goes for YOU as well, you don’t like someone else’s opinion, which this post originally was NOT about an opinion, it was about a sale…SALE..NOT this is my opinion post
3-Are you purposely coming here to slam this personal persons blog which she SHARES with the public to gain recognition of sorts??!
4-My son is 22 yrs old, he ate lunchables..not all the time, but when ever he wanted it, he got it with NO ill effect on him and yes, they are junk based, but so was a lot of the food YOU ate as a child, correct me here if I am wrong!
5-You OWE Karen an apology as she did NOT create this post as an opinion, but as a share for a sale..YOU were out of line. if this is YOUR personal opinion of this product, then find a PUBLIC BLOG (as you clearly want us to know how public opinion is not abuse…) find a PUBLIC blog which STATES a PERSONAL REVIEW of the actual item. Write to the company, do what ever it takes to get your anger out of ya, as this post and person did NOT create this post at all, in any way shape or form as an OPINION!
WOW! I might be hormonal with my pregnancy but I am amazed such an ambiguous post caused such a fire storm.
For those of you who don’t know Karen as I do, trust me, she doesn’t need hubby to get her back. I shiver when she gets to going
(love ya girl!) Not sure what happened here to get such a comment on the first go around but we are always glad to hear from our readers.
I too have recently been blasted, but for an actual opinion, not a sale. All I can say is thank you, Karen, for saving us money and keep up the good work.
Our readers at Thrifty Mommy know what a good thing we have going here and how great Karen is. I hope, Bette, that you continue to leave great comments as you have in the past. Please, however, keep in mind that some pieces are opinion based and some are fact based and comment accordingly. I have really enjoyed all your input on other posts and hope you will continue to keep the conversation coming in the appropriate way.
Thank you to all our readers who talk to us and help us as much as we try to help you.
whoa….somiebody got up on the wrong side of the bed….are we feeling fussy today? i’ve raised/am raising 14 kids…….my children are ALL the picture of health…slender; good skin and coloring; high IQ’S; great muscle tone;active when activity is called for; calm when calmness and concentration are called for. they eat a healthy, well balanced diet…..they also can have treats. if they would like a lunchable they may have one. it’s not like i’m feeding them cardboard and plastic with a few drops of lead in it….crackers are nice…cheese is nice…ham…mmmmmmmmm…and hopefully there’s a little candy bar in there. they also sometimes may have candy; a piece of cake or pie; cookies, you get my point. they’re kids and a little sugar or dab of “processed food” is not going to kill them.
karen and kelly…thanks for the wonderful blog. i’m sorry that an occasional troll feels the need to drop in and blast you. perhaps she should travel over to “parentsbehavingbadly” so she could let her wrath out on some of the truly whacked out abusive parents instead of a lady quoting a food price online. and now….i’m going to go pass out bologna to my healthy kids.
TM readers, please remember that blasting a commenter is just as bad as someone blasting us. So how about we keep these comments on the lighter side and just say whether we were able to take advantage of the sale or have you found a better deal?
Thank you, however, for sticking up for us.
I’m sorry, I think I’m the culprit for beginning the “blasting” emails against Bette.
Apologies, Bette, and I know you were saying that there are a lot of things we could feed our kids other than processed foods.
As for whether I’ve been able to take advantage of the deal, no, I haven’t with a lack of Food Lions here in KY … but I am so happy to know there is a blog that alerts me to great deals like this! In this economy, we need all the help we can get when it comes to pinching our pennies. Love the blog and everything you guys are trying to accomplish through it.
Keep up the great work.
Oh, PS, can’t WAIT for the farmers’ markets to open up. You want to talk about great deals — just hit one of these markets in the summer for marvelous produce at cheap prices.
nah… i think it was me…shouldn’t have called her a troll…sorry. actually, i wasn’t able to get the deal…no food lion around here.
Wow, what a debate and all over a sale post. hehe. I actually think this was a great sale, wish I had a Lion over here to shop at. I think these would make a great break in the usual routine and kids love to pick out their own. No I may not do it every day, but this is more of a fun meal. Not to mention these would be perfect for those of you that may or may not have picnics in the parks with your kids. We love them for that reason. The sun is warming up, take the family to the park…or a lake even. Thanks for the tip, I just don’t have one near me.
