Maintenance is the key to time management

I am the world’s worst when it comes to time management and housecleaning.  I have already talked about ways to get chores done while hanging out with your kids so let me give you a few more ways to save time and still get to hang out with your kids.

  • Teach your kids to make their own beds.  Start by letting them help you make their bed.  Then after a few weeks, get them to make their own bed.
  • Toys seem to multiply.  Have your kids pick up their toys before they get tired and then have a quiet activity for them to do right before bed.  Turkey Butt likes to play on the computer right before bed.  This way, it is not a fight to get the toys up.
  • Find a play kitchen at a yard sale so that when you cook, your kids can cook as well and you don’t have to worry about burning them from grease.
  • I said it before, but make sure you keep up with the basic maintenance stuff like a load of laundry a day and keep the dishwasher empty.
  • Don’t forget to wipe down the bathroom when your kids are in the bathtub.  This way you can let them play and still get stuff done.

I am not perfect but I am trying to keep up with the maintenance stuff so that it won’t take me 4 hours to clean my bathroom and 3 bedrooms again.  I hate wasting so much time doing housework.  Unfortunately, that is WITH  my kids at the sitter.  But my bedrooms are spotless, the carpets are shampooed where needed and the floor was scrubbed by hand.  All the towels and rugs I own are now clean and soon to be back on the floor and Little Man will have a great bath tonight without me cringing about putting him on the floor to lotion him.  Now if I could just kick this cold and breath, I would be doing much better.

  1. Surprisingly my house is very clean for having 7 people living in it. Thank God my husband does A LOT of chores and he helps me yell at the kids when they are slacking on theirs. The biggest tip to keeping the house clean is- putting things back when you are done with them. If you can’t do that, then boy are you in trouble. Been there many a times and it’s an ugly sight.
