Mobile Phones to Save the World

Virgin Mobile PhoneSo you have a cell phone, and the person behind you has a mobile phone that has more advanced and hi-tech features.  You then decide to buy a similar phone.  But months later, another more advanced mobile phone comes out and you decide to purchase the newest and latest model.

Is that a wise decision?  Maybe it is for your own needs and preferences, but it is a decision that may not be friendly to the environment.

If you are concerned for the state of the world’s greens, you could ask where would your current mobile phone go?  If your cellphone unit is a Virgin mobile, chances are it will be recycled to help save the world from techno-trash.

That is, if you use Virgin’s postage paid envelop and send it back to them.  The profits raised from Virgin’s recycling program immediately goes to organizations that help kids in need, such as Stand Up for Kids and YouthNoise.

Panasonic is also one mobile phone company whose goal is to reduce and recycle.  Reduce basically means lengthening the phone’s longevity and use thereby helping reduce wastage.

Recycle meanwhile means product materials that could be used for other newer products.

Being eco-friendly is a goal these mobile phone companies value, however this objective should also be a requirement for other mobile phone companies as well.

Nokia is also eco-friendly by its elimination of polyvinyl chlorides previously used widely in their mobile phones which is very difficult to re-use and recycle.  Plus, it also releases a toxin called dioxin.

Also, beginning 2007, the use of flame brominated retardants will be halted.  Such efforts helped this Finnish mobile phone company top Grenpeace’s list of environment-friendly phone companies.
