Movies on a budget. Tips for seeing a movie for cheap.

I love date night.  I just don’t like to shell out a bunch of money.  Most people have family that can help out with babysitting, so they don’t have to pay.  We don’t.  The blessing in our life is that we have a couple of teenagers that love watching our daughter.  We pay them in meals, movies, etc since they won’t take payment.  They are wonderful to us.  The other day we went to see Superman.  (What a good movie by the way)  We used to go to the movies at any time.  Now we only go when we can use discount tickets or go to see them during matinees.  We save $5 that way.  As far as drinks, I have to say that legally you are not allowed to bring in food or drinks from outside the theater.  I can remind you; however, that there usually are water fountains at most theaters.  Water from fountains is still free.  Bottled water is now usually $3 or more at the theater.  I REFUSE to pay that much for water!  Here are some tips for saving money on a date.

  • Watch the matinee showing.  They are usually cheaper.
  • Eat at home before you go to the movie.  That way you won’t be tempted to eat there.  If you really want to eat out, go somewhere that you have a coupon for.
  • Drink water from the fountain or bring a glass from home and fill it up.
  • If you are a patient person, wait a few weeks and you can use your discount tickets at night.

Anybody else have any good tips?  I’d love to hear it as my DH and I really enjoy a good movie.
