Netflix saves you time and money.

My husband and I used to watch movies so much that the theater practically knew us by site. Not really but they should have. Some weekends we would see 3 movies. Now that was a colossal waste of money. But then again, that was before kids when we had a little bit to spare. Then we started renting movies but weren’t very good at returning them on time. I can, embarrassed to say, remember a late fee over $40. That wasn’t thrifty at all! So then we just stared buying them. Now we have a ton of movies that we don’t watch taking up way too much space that we need.
So when I started seeing the commercials for Netflix, I was interested. My sister loves it and my friend at rookiemoms enjoys the service too. Must be something about the selection combined with the price. I would love it if for nothing else than NO LATE FEES! And there is nothing more frugal than getting a movie without ever having to leave your house and no late fees.
You are right about purchased movies taking up a lot of space. I keep buying them because they are a great price, but half of them still have the cellophane on. I keep telling myself that one of these days…

Exactly Although one of these days, you and I are going to have one heck of a yard sale! Yippee!
Another suggestion is to buy the previously viewed ones from Blockbuster. Having two little ones, I don’t have much time for tv or for movies, but during one of my personal times away from the kids I dropped into Blockbuster. Their big banners lured me in. I bought a movie that I had been wanting to see for only $5. I couldn’t have rented it for much cheaper. Before I buy movies now I try to make sure it is a movie that I will watch again and one that I can show the youth from our church when they come over, so I have to check the content. This particular movie that I bought was rated PG. After watching I learned it was a good movie and an appropriate one to show to the youth from church when they come to visit. It was a good use of money. You could also try yard sales. People do get rid of those movies that take up too much space.
I second the Blockbuster idea! We buy most of our DVDs from them. And as a bonus: if you don’t think you’ll watch it again, you can sell it back to them! They pay up to $5 for popular used DVDs. Even if you only get $2 and you paid $5, it’s still cheaper then renting, and it’s not cluttering up your basement!
