Not so frugal mistake

I stop functioning mentally around 9:30pm. I just get so tired and exhausted that I just vegetate or go to sleep early. So when I attempted to do laundry at 10pm the other night, I paid for it. I wasn’t paying attention and just scooped up all the clothes on the bathroom floor and didn’t see the pull up that my daughter left on the floor that morning getting ready for school. DH didn’t have any shirts for work the next morning so I was trying to get as many of his work shirts clean as I could. Imagine my frustration when I went to put his shirts in the dryer and saw the gel from the pull up all over the clothes.
Poor DH had to go to work with a long sleeve shirt and I stood outside yesterday in the rain and had to shake out EACH wet shirt (I looked like I had been in a blizzard by the time all that gel was shaken onto my head) and then had to break up 1 load of laundry into 3 loads to make sure the clothes had plenty of room to get all that gel off. Needless to say, I wasted 3 loads of water and my shoulders were killing me.
The moral of the story… pay attention to what you put into the washing machine. Check the pockets for anything and make sure you help your little ones get dressed so they don’t leave you any surprises.

I finally learned my lesson after the millionth time that DH left kleenex in his pocket.
So why does it take us forever to have to relearn laundry mistakes.
I get really frustrated at my hubby because he doesn’t empty his pockets before he puts his clothes in the hamper. I have pulled out candy, pens, chapstick, and one time I found a few hundred dollars!!!! To make matters worse, now I’m having to check my 3-year-old’s pockets. He’s a boy and well, you know, boys like to pick things up and put them in their pockets. I wish it weren’t so, but I do have to check pockets before putting the clothes in the washer. I’m glad you were able to get the gel out of his shirts! Good thing they werent’ ruined.
Well, bite my tongue! Guess what happened to me tonight? I was taking the laundry out of the washer out of the washing machine and there was gel all over the clothes!!!! Seriously, no kidding. I had checked all the pockets. I think there was a pull-up stuck inside my son’s shorts and I didn’t see it. Crazy, I know. I didn’t shake my clothes out though. I rewashed them all together and when I took them out, it appeared as though all the gel was gone. Just to make sure, I washed them all again one more time.
OK, now I am laughing because you are way more particular than I am about laundry!
I shook them out and then broke the load into 3 loads to make sure all the gel was out! That is a lot considering my water situation.
I had a similar incident. I did not notice that my 3-year-old stuffed her pants with crayons when I put clothes into the washer and then…dryer. The crayons melted inside the pants and stained the pants plus some other clothes… inside the dryer.
