You can often find basic rooms for families of 4 or even 6 people for great prices. You just have to join the International Hostelling association. We live in over-priced Northern Virginia and we "vacation" in Cowan's Gap. Pennsylvania. It's 1.5 hours from our house and it's $54.00 PER WEEK. That leaves us plenty of money for food and fun.
