I agree that gifts from the heart are the best…although I tend to agonize over them just as you are doing. Is there something your mom could use your help with? My mom lives alone, so I know sometimes what she wants most is an extra pair of hands for a job or just someone to lighten a load here and there. To me, those can sometimes be the best gifts…finally getting that project done that you’ve been waiting for! Just a thought.

What about giving her a membership to Netflix for a year or something like that? Then she can watch all the movies she wants. Or take her on a movie date with you, complete with popcorn, soda and candies she remembers from her childhood?

Include some aluminum foil and ziplocks so she can FREEZE half the basket to enjoy in the coming months. Many baked goods freeze well. My grandmother used to keep brownies in the freezer, stored so that just a few could be taken out and thawed – and that was before microwaves!

What about a basket of healthy baked goods, or baked goods made with organic and fresh ingredients? That would probably appeal to her love of baked goods and of her slim figure…
