Open Office Software – A Free Alternative to Microsoft Office

If you don’t want to cough up a few hundred bucks to get Office for your kids as you send them back to school, you may want to look into a free alternative that I found to be quite easy to use – Open Office. While I was since able to get an incredibly cheap copy of Microsoft Office through a deal between an employer and Microsoft, I spent many years using Open Office to write everything from children’s magazine stories to resumes. (And since some of the manuscripts were published and I was hired for a job, I’d say it did a fine job!)

Yay open office! My husband also gives you props. The only problem I have with it is the need to save it as a Word document for the sake of attachments with professors and other folks not as “enlightened” (or thrifty). A hassle to remember to save it differently, but not a hassle to actually do. And, as you said, **free!** :-)

I’ve been using Open Office for several years now and I love it. Glad to see I’m no tthe only one.
