I an a firm believer in the fact that opinions will keep you from wasting your money.  So what are your opinions on travel booster seats?  Do you like the ones that hook onto the table or the ones that tie onto the chair?  I am in need of one but don’t know what ot get.

BTW, if you have an issue you want to get an opinion on , just let us know and we will get it up.

We love our hook on the table one.

  2. Courtney says:

We love our strap to the chair one. We take it EVERYWHERE with us (relatives houses, camping, etc.) We even use it at home b/c my daughter got to be too big for her high chair but too small to sit on her own.

  3. Alyson says:

We use the hook-on kind when we travel with the twins. They fold up into little carry bags, which make them very convenient.

  4. We use a hook-on-the-chair highchair as our everyday highchair! We absolutely love it. It’s small enough to go into the closet if we are trying to de-baby our home, but it is also completely unobtrusive if we leave it on one of our dining room chairs. It’s also extremely easy to take it places, so that’s a nice perk, too!

Kelly, do you remember my hook on the table one? I got it at a yard sale and it got us through 2 more kids. lol

We like the strap on the chair ones for home b/c they take up so much less space than a high chair. For going out, we liked the clamp on one. We always hated restaurant high chairs b/c they were so nasty and many of them were lacking straps. Hardly any of them had t-straps, so my kids could easily climb out.

I didn’t have either w/my kids, but my cousin never used a high chair..she preferred the strap in chair because it was so convenient. I’d prefer it because you wouldn’t have to worry about the table tipping over if it’s not sturdy enough.

potty chairs vs toilet seats might be another good opinion poll!

I actually got a travel booster from a neighbor I found on freecycle.org. I love it! When I didn’t want to carry it, I used one of those washable cloth covers that I won in a contest a while ago. It was very convenient for restaurants and it just looked cute and cozy.

  8. Sarah says:

The strap-to-chair kind are nice, because in places where there wouldn’t necessarily be a seat to strap it too (like a crowded party or a picnic), there are little “feet” (at least on mine), that fold out and make it stable by itself. Nice feature. The kid’s sometimes a bit low, but it sure beats holding them on your lap!

I love my travel booster seat. We use it at home as well because it takes up so little room in the kitchen (we don’t have much room to begin with). It’s also super easy and convenient to fold up and take with us places. We don’t take it much to restaurants though, which almost makes me wish I had a hook on the table one (I may look around at tagsales this summer…). We have one of those cloth covers meant for shopping carts that does pretty well in a pinch at a restaurant.

  10. jess says:

i just use what is available, honestly. i think for traveling, they take up a lot of space. we do have a hook to the table one that folds flat though, but we’ve never used it!

  11. Maria says:

I use a strap to the chair one that is small/light enough to throw in my suitcase when flying around the country. In between trips, I leave it in the car for use at friends, etc. My primary need/focus though is to throw it in the suitcase, because we travel a lot.

  12. kellys says:

Maria, which chair do you have?

  13. Maria says:

Sorry– it is The First Years On-The-Go Self-inflating Booster Seat. I like it. My only complaint is on a padded/pillowed seat, it doesn’t always stay even on the bottom, but that happens so seldom, as most dining chairs are solid wood without a cushion.

  14. Carey says:

we used both. we used the travel one that straps on the chair the most. The one that hooks on the table was nice when we went on vacation b/c it does fold smaller, but i always put a chair under it just in case it doesnt hook. Also, the hook on chair does not fit onto every table, you have to see how its built. I would go with the strap on chair, just because if you are short on chairs at a table, this one can sit on the floor(or on a chair) and you dont have to worry about having a chair to put under it for extra security. Thats my opinion. Im a mom of 4

  15. kellys says:

Thanks to all of you that have given your opinion. I really appreciate the advice and am looking forward to more.

  16. Kaye says:

We have a strap-to-the-chair kind and here’s a huge revelation…it’s the only kind he’s ever used. That’s right…he never had a high chair. He’s always used this strap on seat that we used to snap a try to (we just use it at the table now). Ha ha, corporate-spend-a-lot-of-money-on-your-baby-businesses…we won with a $20 seat that we have now used for almost a full 2 years now!

  17. Robin says:

I have both, and I much prefer the strap-to-the-chair booster since some places we take it don’t work well for the hook to the table one. Places with folding tables, and places with tablecloths have been problematic. I do also have a “clean shopper/diner” for covering icky restaurant high chairs.

But I love taking the booster to the movies with us, so munchkin doesn’t get folded up and stuck in a movie theater seat.

I got both my hook on and booster seat at a yard sale for a buck or two, and have been using them for years (DS is now 4 1/2) and they’re still in good shape for DD who is about to start using them at 16 months.

    Good luck!
