Our Credit Card Company is So Nice

I received the nicest letter today from our credit card company. We haven’t used this account in over two years, but it’s nice of them to think so fondly of us. Here’s what the letter had to say:
The holidays mean time away from work. So, devote time to relax, visit with family and friends or indulge yourself with a vacation. It is a special time of year – use your money wisely.
We would like to help you stretch your holiday dollars without putting a strain on your checking account. Because you are a preferred cardholder, your good credit deserves to be rewarded. We have attached these Holiday LetterChecks for your convenience and holiday use.
These Holiday LetterChecks are our gift to you. They can be used to make purchases, pay bills, and ease holiday gift giving. Use them like regular checks. But instead of draining your checking account, your purchases will be reflected on your next monthly credit card statement. Your only limit is your imagination!

Ok, before I chime in with my thoughts, I want to hear what YOU think of this letter.
Never mind the strain that you’ll feel come January! Letters like that infuriate me.

Any time someone who wants your money starts talking sweet, you need to be VERY afraid.
I bet if you got a good lawyer you could get them on “These Holiday LetterChecks are our gift to you.” Since when do you have to pay for a gift?
Seriously, they really try to sound like the good guys huh?

The very idea that giving their company my patronage is a “gift” to me is infuriating.
This is crazy! Man I love marketing people…they make it sound like they are doing you a huge favor…but in the end you’ll be the one who’s deep in debt. (Well unless you are responsible with your finances…which I don’t think MOST people are.)

Their gift to you, huh? I love this. Their idea of “gift” is something you have to pay for! That’s not a gift in my way of thinking, but I suppose enough people get sucked into this farce to make it worth their expense and time to send out these letters. Thanks for sharing this to point out their duplicity. I don’t object to people making money–just don’t make money off of me and call it a gift to me! Debt is not a gift!
This is what is why everyone is in debt up to their eyeballs. Credit card companies no longer just give you a card with a specific amount, they have to remind you on a regular basis to crank up the debt but sending you checks and making them sound like a gift to use. I wonder how much money them make with finance charges to the people that use these checks for purchases over their credit limit because they dont have the money for what they want. These credit card companies make me so angry.
