Question for You All

December 9, 2007 by Karen Weideman

My aunt is having a party for her daughter’s 16th birthday.  She’s having a chocolate fountain at the party.  We were wondering what type of chocolate she should use.  I’ve heard to use chocolate with cocoa butter and I’ve heard to use any kind of choclate and add oil.  I’ve heard that some brands taste better than others.  I’ve had some that taste like wax.  Anyway, I was hoping that some of you had experience with this and could help out with some advice.  Thanks!

We own a chocolate fountain and actually using bags of chocolate chips (they have any kind of chocolate flavor, i.e. dark) is best – thin with oil in order to get the right consistency for the fountain. Ours has always tasted amazing – good enough to eat without the dippers!

We also have a chocolate fountain, and the directions say to add chocolate chips, so I used good chocolate chips from a decent chocolatier and it was delicious. When the kids want to use it, I use plain old bittersweet girhadelli chips and it works great. Just make sure that the fat content in the chocolate is high and you won’t need to add anything to it.

    cadbury chocolate melts the best!

MM uses milk chocolate chips with milk in her fondue set. Don’t know if that is the same but it works great! What a great 16th party!
