Christina P: I would not doubt it if Obama wins tomorrow. He has spent a ton of money on campaigning. My understanding is that the amount is many times more than most candidates spend. The amount of money that is spent on elections disgusts me, and I'm not just talking about the money that Obama spends. It's probably enough to wipe out world hunger. But we have our priorities out of order.

You're right, some of those comments were from opinions, but they were based upon Obama's beliefs, things he has voted for, and his dealings.

Thanks for stopping by Thrifty Mommy. While we may disagree on politics, I hope you understand that I believe that the presidential election has a lot to do with finances as well as my personal convictions.

Karen, I really enjoy your blog for frugal advice for moms and I hope you continue to focus on that kind of subject matter. You have the right to your opinions on politics. However, I have a comment about your last note here. Those points are not fact-checked since they are in a guest column on a religious-based website. No offense but even Fox News is more credible than that source.

Know what? All this is moot since Obama's going to win tomorrow.

Style Over Substance

Inside the Obama package, unwrapped after the election, what can we expect?

Partial-birth abortion and infanticide, ensuring that babies die who "accidentally survived abortion," will be finally and permanently be entrenched as lawful "choice" in America.

School "choice" will be limited to "choosing" to stay in the public school system, denying parents a real choice to use their own tax dollars for top-quality charter and private schools.

Our American president will be able to further cultivate the already glowing approval of Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Hamas leaders, and Louis Farrakhan, all of whom praise Obama's politics.

The Supreme Court will be used to make law in the United States, nine men and women overriding the will of the American people expressed in elections and the legislative process. We will work hard to make laws. The Supreme Court will work harder, striking down our laws and replacing them with theirs.

Marriage will no longer mean one man and one woman.

Legal immigration will be replaced by a U.S. citizenship conferred on people who happen to merely "show up" at the window to fill out paperwork.

Taxes will be increased on entrepreneurs and investors from less than 38 percent to more than 50 percent.

Entrepreneurs and investors will take their money...and their jobs...out of the country to countries like China and India where lower taxes will reward their investment. American jobs will move overseas.

New American jobs will be created when taxes on Americans are increased to build new social programs to provide FDR-style governmental work project jobs.

Healthcare will be nationalized, paid for and controlled by the federal government...just as countries like Canada and England admit failure with their own nationalized healthcare. They want what we have. Our president will want what they wish to abandon.

AKS:

First you said, Just to get my 2 cents in for Obama/Biden, too… to clarify, their changes they propose are not socialist.

And then you said, I am not saying redistribution of wealth is or isn’t socialism.

Perhaps you misspoke one of the times.

I understand where you're coming from on the health insurance. Most of my adult life I've been in situations where I've needed healthcare and couldn't afford it or didn't qualify for assistance. Right now my family is without health insurance. We are just barely over the income allowance for medicaid. We've forked out quite a bit of money over the last few months in doctor's visits and medicines, but I would rather do that than to let the government have the control of universal healthcare.

I don't believe the totally rich are the only ones who can survive. There are millions of working middle class families out there that are surviving.

I have a very uneasy feeling about Obama and the changes that he promises. I hope we don't get more than we planned for. It reminds me of the Israelites who turned against Samuel and God and demanded a king. God told Samuel to give the people a king and the Israelites had to learn the hard way. Soon the Israelites were unhappy about Saul, the king they had been given. Here's the story http://www.ebibleteacher.com/children/lessons/OT/Judges/DemandKing.htm

John McCain is a personal friend of my family's and my parents have known him for almost 40 years. My father was in his squadron in the Navy. I liked the McCain of 10 years ago better than the one now, who is lying and becoming a Bush clone. He's no maverick anymore. And I am NOT voting for him.

I am not saying redistribution of wealth is or isn't socialism. I am just asking: where do you draw the line between government involvement and total independence where the extremely rich are the only ones who can survive? Also, I pointed out several "socialist" programs that we have in this country already, including medicare and medicaid (which we did not qualify for, thanks to being middle class - we weren't poor enough.) It's just extending it to other people besides those who are really poor and those who are finished working.

Thanks for your kind words on our situation. I hope no one is EVER in our situation. It's horrible to be working and drowning in medical bills and having it just be because you need medical care for your child to live.

I can tell you that McCain's system will NOT solve the healthcare problem and will make it worse for working people like us who make the US MHI and below. For the first time ever we would have to pay TAXES on any medical benefits our employers gave us.

Of course you should vote for whoever will provide the best solution for your family, and I respect that. Doesn't look like I'll be able to change your mind.

PS: I'm pro-life too. And I'm very pro Obama/Biden.

I agree that both are not Reagan! I cannot bring myself to vote for Obama for several reasons: I have seen firsthand the foolhardiness of universal health care in Europe, as Dave Ramsey says, people should be responsible for their own finances, not expect the government to take care of them, and most importantly, the issue of life. I look at it this way: John Mccain spent more time in a POW camp than Barack Obama has spent in public office. If nothing else, he has faithfully served his country against odds I am not sure I could have faced, so I have to believe he will be as stalwart in the future.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's health problems and I hope he's doing better now. It does sound as though you would have qualified for Medicaid for your son. Medicaid will also backpay doctor bills.

Just to get my 2 cents in for Obama/Biden, too... to clarify, their changes they propose are not socialist. Ignore the McCain ads, read the New York Times, The Washington Post or visit Obama's website and compare his plan elements to any socialist country's and it's not even close. If you are considering government involvement in our personal affairs socialism, how is the bank bailout, for which McCain himself voted, not socialist? Even he has not been able to answer that question.

If you define socialist as the government running and paying for what were formerly private entities, I think we're already there. What about the USPS, libraries, public school education, medicare, social security - all government run programs? Of course you have to draw the line where you're comfortable, but O/B are not proposing to move healthcare to 100% government run. They just want to make sure working people don't get stuck trying to pay for $500,000 medical bills like we did for my son who was born with a rare brain tumor. I had to ask people for money and do fundraisers. It was humiliating.

Just try to pay for healthcare with McCain's paltry $5,000. You won't be able to do it. We paid out of pocket $900 a month (x 12 =$10,800 a year) for a pretty bad health plan last year. That was before we even set foot in the doctor's office for copays and prescriptions. Oh, and that's WITH $100 a month subsidy by my husband's employer. We are hard working people, middle class and we can barely make it because of our healthcare costs. And the sad thing is, I know too many people like us out there.

You will notice I did not even mention one thing about Palin. Hopefully I've given you a few things to think about why you should vote for Obama/Biden, vs. telling you how bad McCain/Palin will be for our country. Good luck, but I hope you change your mind and vote Obama/Biden on Tuesday!
