Summer Reading Programs

Does your library have a summer reading program? Our does. This is the first year my son can be apart of it because he’s in first grade, and he’s looking forward to joining. Since we visit the library every week, we really won’t have to do anything extra.

The summer reading program is nice because it gives our son a goal, and there are various prizes and goodies to help motivate him. This is in addition to him getting lots of reading in.

Like most things at the library, the summer reading program is free. I only wish they had one for adults!

My kids are 15 and 17 now, but when they were younger, we always went to the library and joined in on the reading program. Usually, they were one of the first ones done and had their prizes early. They didn’t read to get the prizes, because they always were great readers, but the prizes were a bonus since they were doing it anyway.

Maybe you should suggest an adult program – our library has one and it’s popular! It could even be as simple as people writing brief reviews of books they’ve read and the librarian compiling them in a notebook.
    Have fun!

Sometimes I read your blog and we’re doing the same exact things! My son and I went to the library today and signed up for the summer reading program too! It’s a great program and the library was PACKED!

Our local library has an adult summer reading program…if you are interested in it, chances are others who use your library are too, so like the comment above mine, I’d ask the library about it.

  4. I am really looking forward to doing this with my daughter. Have fun! Please do tell us about any fab books he finds?
