Fighting with cancer is tough, but dealing with household chores makes it tougher. Today I was so pleased today to find out about Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization that offers free professional cleaning and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer.

What you can do:

Make a donation. Even $10 can make a difference. Get a free pink sweatshirt with a $100 donation. You can also make a donation in memory of a loved one. Use the link on the website to donate or call 877-337-3348.
Instead of using your normal search engine, set GoodSearch as your home page and a donation is made every time you search or shop online.
Order gift cards. Gift Cards for a Cause is an easy way to support a non-profit organization throughout the year by shopping for your every day needs like groceries, clothing, and casual dining, or any occasion that calls for gift giving.
If you use a professional maid service, ask them if they have heard of Cleaning for a Reason.

During the holidays gifts to charity in others names is becoming more and more popular. It’s a nice gift too, especially if you pick something your friend or family member is passionate about. Plus you can learn how the charity is planning to grow their services over time.

If you’re a registered user you can access a charity comparison feature but even as an unregistered user you can browse charities. There’s also many cool extras like top ten lists, Q&A, articles about charities, and videos.

A Free Way to Help Toys for Tots

Have you heard of My Coke Rewards? You simply take those 12-15 digit codes from your purchase of Coke products and enter them at MyCokeRewards.com. Right now, My Coke Rewards is allowing points to be donated to Toys for Tots. So far, over 10 million points have been donated. I never get enough points to do anything with, so this is a great way for me to help out.

Every now and then Kelly and I like to remind you of easy and cost free ways to help others. I received another email this week reminding me of the free click through
The Breast Cancer Site that helps to pay for mammograms for those in need.

Here are some stats for recent days:

September 14 – 4.8 mammograms
September 15 – 8.5 mammograms
September 16 – 8.1 mammograms
September 17 – 7.0 mammograms
September 18 – 8.5 mammograms
September 19 – 7.3 mammograms
September 20 – 4.5 mammograms

Others Participating in the Blog Off

In case you’re just now logging on, we’re in the midst of a blogathon. We’re raising money for the Children’s Hunger Fund. We’re working hard to post one article every hour during the 24 hour period. After I made the commute to Virginia to visit Kelly, we worked into the morning hours. I went to bed at 2:45 this morning. Yawn! I’m waiting for the coffee to kick in.

The Great Blog Off Begins

In celebration of the June 20th summer solstice, b5media is having The Great Blog Off. Participating b5media blogs from the Lifestyles, Business, and Entertainment channels will post content at least once per hour for each hour of the day.

This is the first time since 1975 that the summer solstice hasn’t occurred on June 21. On this day, the daytime hours are at a maximum in the Northern hemisphere and night time is at a minimum. It is officially the first day of summer.

The great blog off begins at 12:01 am on June 20th. Each blog channel will be accepting charitable pledges for a charity that they have chosen.

Only 3 Days Left

There are only 3 days left until the new year. This means that there are 3 days left to make donations to a non-profit organization for the 2006 year. Use this as an excuse to clean out your closets and your kid’s toys. Come on, you know they have too many toys, especially since Christmas just passed.

Don’t forget about monetary donations as well. Just make sure your check it postmarked on time. I’m sure your church, local Salvation Army, or other charitable organization would appreciate your donation.

Make sure you ask for a receipt for your donations.

Ginny Hilfiger to host a fashion show where part of the proceeds go to the families of Greenwich Hospital.

Ginny has a heart of gold. No, I am not talking about Forrest Gump’s Jenny. I am talking about celebrity designer, Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter, Ginny. She is also a designer and has a line of adult clothing out herself. Why would a thrifty mommy blog about an expensive designer, you ask? Because she is also, evidently, a charitable one to boot. She is laughing a new clothing line and will have her fashion show at her mom’s trendy baby store, Best & Co. 15% of all sales will be donated to the families who are involved with Greenwich Hospital. That is very kind of her and worth a thrifty at-a-girl. Looks like all rich girls aren’t spoiled after all.
