Well, it wasn’t under $40, but I haven’t really been grocery shopping in awhile and had extra money in my grocery budget. I had been picking up one or two things in a quick dash, like the weekend special items at Food Lion, and mostly living off my stockpile because I was too busy for big shopping trips. Loss leaders are grocery items sold at a loss in order to lead people into a store. They’re the items you find in your supermarket flyer each week. Many frugal shoppers save money by creating their shopping lists around their supermarket flyers and only buying loss leaders each week. When shopping for loss leaders, keep the following in mind:

Did you know you can save money by shopping the perimeter of your supermarket first? It’s true! All your important staples are lining the perimeter; you’ll find meat, dairy, fruit and veggies on the walls surrounding the stores. Most people don’t overspend in these areas.
