Kids clothing consignment stores

I was talking to Karen the other day and realized how lucky I am to live where I do. She takes her stuff to a consignment store and waits to see what sells. I have my used baby stores and just take my stuff and let them take what they want. I took some things to the local store this week.

A wooden doll house
An infant tub
4 stuffed animals

I got a store credit of $13.50. If I wanted cash, she would have given me $11. I was more than happy to take the store credit since …read more

Clothes shopping only I could manage

My girlfriend, Heather, and I laugh all the time about the fact that only the crazy and stupid stuff happens to me!  My dad and I used to pick on my mom when she would come home with a crazy story that happened to her on her trip to the store.  Now I am turning into her and loving it!
I went to the  local Plato’s closet today to find some shorts.  First off, what was I thinking!  The shorts are so short that I couldn’t cover my non granny panties even when standing up, much less sitting or bending down.  …read more

Frugal Challenge Saturday – Consignment vs yard sale

There seems to be a great debate on whether you should give your stuff to the local consignment sale to sell or have a yard sale. I thought I would try out the local consignment shop that I love to go to to see how it compared. I gave them a sling that didn’t fit me to sell. I got $5 for it and they had it on the rack for $15. I got more than what I thought I would get for it but still, they are making a killing on it. So here are the pros and cons …read more

25 Ways to Save Money with a Baby

25 Ways to Save Money with a Baby

1)  Check consignment stores or thrift stores for maternity clothes.  One day I saw a bunch of nice maternity clothes at Good Will.  Check your local store a few times as donations will come in regularly.  Also, see if you can borrow some from a friend.  You probably won’t wear them that long anyway.  Another place to look is ebay.
2)  Register for your shower.  People will be more likely to get you what you need.  Also, if you are registered at Target, they have a more flexible return policy.
3)  Nurse if you possibly can.  Formulas can cost a lot of …read more

A Thrifty Buzz

A Thrifty Buzz

Do you ever get a tingly feeling inside from when you get stupendous thrifty deals?  I went shopping today and got some great deals.  Of course, I had to share the good news with my thrifty moms.
Today I stopped by the consignment store to drop off another tote.  (I am pleased that we are getting rid of all our baby and children’s things.  I’ve been taking in a tote about every week.)  While I was there I saw they were having 75% off their winter clothing.  Wow!  What a deal!
Consignment store prices are usually pretty good.  Sometimes there are items …read more

Thrifty Deals on Spring Dresses

I was in T.J. Maxx today looking for a bedset for my daughter.  (No luck, by the way.)  While I was there I spotted some beautiful Easter/Spring dresses.  I saw some dresses priced as low as $9.99.  There was a particular dress that I found to be very nice and it was only $24.99.
Another place to shop is consignment stores.  The store where I consign and shop has some really nice dresses priced under $15.
The dress in the picture is from Target.com.  It is available for only $17.99.
You don’t have to spend $75 on your daughter’s Easter dress. Shop around …read more

Be Frugal on Your Fall and Winter Clothing Purchases

Well, it is the time of year again to start switching out our kids’ clothes.  I have to admit that I dread it–all the washing, sorting, and putting away.  Downstairs I keep totes full of clothes for my kids for the seasons.  There are also clothes that are too big them to wear right now.
The clothes that I have stored come from many places – yard sales, consignment stores, clearance racks, and many of my girl clothes were given to me by my wonderful, long-time friend Karen. (Thanks, Karen.  )
Have you noticed that these clothes all have something in …read more
