Sometimes I find some great deals and I’m so excited about it that I have to share it with all you thrifty folks. My latest deal is this oak entertainment center/armoire.

My hubby and I dropped by the local antique/furniture/junk store this week. We just never know what we’ll find. I have been dropping in there frequently lately because I was looking for something for my tv to sit on. I found a beautiful big dresser but it was $350. Ouch. I even considered it. After all, it would be a lifelong beautiful piece. Thankfully, we went back a few days later and found this entertainment center. We paid only $45 for it! I’m so excited!

The cabinet also has room underneath for our dvds and such. We plan to keep that television for only another year or two, so it’s best that we didn’t pay much for a tv cabinet. After we get a flatscreen for the wall, we can move this entertainment center to our bedroom to use as an armoire (since it has doors) or to one of the kid’s rooms.

What deals have you found lately?

Additional savings were earned from a $1 catalina that I received after my last purchase on Friday. General Mills and Harris Teeter have a rebate savings going on right now. I think if you purchase 3 Pillsbury products you get a $1 coupon/Catalina at the end of your purchase good on your next order. I got one Wednesday after buying 3 Pillsbury Grand biscuits and then again Friday after the same purchase was made. Then today I got a $5 rebate off my purchase for buying 15 General Mills products. I didn’t realize I had purchased that many GM products this week, but I was glad for the extra savings.

This week I spent approximately $94 but I saved about $220. I did get lots of things that I normally wouldn’t purchase unless they were free or really cheap. I was able to stock our pantry with rice, dessert mixes, and some easy items for the freezer. I also stocked our pantry with lots of canned vegetables. They were buy 2 get 3 free. The kids will be excited about the junk food in the cabinets. I’ll have to ration it out over the next month.

The point of me telling you all this today is to encourage you that you can save a lot of money on your grocery bill. It does take time, but it is so worth the savings! I’ll say it again . . . Time is money and money is time.

Do you use coupons when you shop?

During the past sale week, Harris Teeter was having their super double coupon sale again. During this sale, they double coupons with a face value of $1.98 or less. As you can imagine, you can save a lot of money.

I confess that I did not want to participate in the sale this time. We just got back from summer youth camp a few days earlier and I’ve had a lot of extra things to do. I knew I’d better take advantage of this opportunity though so that I could continue filling our pantry with inexpensive items.

Here’s a list of the deals I found yesterday. I think I did pretty well considering I haven’t clipped coupons in a few weeks. My coupon binder really made the shopping trip easier. I did not have to preplan and organize the deals. I simply walked up and down the aisles, flipping through the categories in my binder. I realize that the sale is no longer going on. This post is simply to encourage you to keep couponing. It really does pay off.

First transaction:
3 CVS nighttime (generic Nyquil), regular price $5.29, clearance price $1.32
I stockpiled these for the winter season while they were at a rock bottom price. This is using the buy ahead principle to avoid paying full price later.

Second transaction:
CVS panty shields, $.89, receive $.89 Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) back (limit 1)
Pantene shampoo, reg $6.29, $4.99 sale, receive $2 ECBs, used $1 coupon
3 pencil sharpeners, $.99 each, receive $.99 ECBs each (limit 3)
At the end of this transaction, I received the $.89 ECBS for the panty shields, the $2.97 ECBs for the pencil sharpeners, the $2 ECBs for the Pantene, and it also printed a few coupons – $5 off a $25 purchase, $2 off Huggies wipes, and an additional $1.50 CVS coupon or ECB.

Transaction 3:
2 six inch topiaries (for my girl’s Barbie house), reg $1.99, clearance price $.19 each
Organix shampoo, reg $6.99, sale $4.99 – I bought this because there was a rebate form on the bottle to try it for free.
Bayer heart aspirin, reg $6.99, clearance $3.50, $1.50 coupon on box
2 Dove hair mousse, reg $4.99 each, on sale buy 1 get 1 free, used $1 coupon
Pampers Easy Ups, reg $11.99, sale $8.99, used $1 coupon
2 Pringles canister, reg $2.79 each, sale $1.50 each, used $1 coupon
Huggies wipes $3.49, used $2 CVS coupon and $.75 manufacturer’s coupon
On this transaction, I had $5.25 in manufacturer’s coupons and $14.36 in ECBs and CVS coupons.

If my calculations are correct, the regular price for all of these items would have been $94.73. My out of pocket (OOP) expense was $21.54 plus I will send off immediately for the $4.99 rebate. This is a savings of over 80%!

I spent some time this week clipping and organizing my coupons into my coupon binder. The binder is very helpful in situations (such as today) when you are shopping and happen to find some items on sale or clearance.

These are my CVS bargains for this week. Let me know if you have any questions or if I did not explain something clearly.

Happy saving!
