Frugal Challenge Saturday – Consignment vs yard sale

There seems to be a great debate on whether you should give your stuff to the local consignment sale to sell or have a yard sale. I thought I would try out the local consignment shop that I love to go to to see how it compared. I gave them a sling that didn’t fit me to sell. I got $5 for it and they had it on the rack for $15. I got more than what I thought I would get for it but still, they are making a killing on it. So here are the pros and cons …read more

I told you this morning about a coupon I got for Children’s place. I got the coupon from a forum off the mommysavers site. It is a great site to get updates and coupons and talk to other mommies. Thanks to Al Gore and his invention, the Internet <wink … wink>, we can take advantage of all the savings that everyone else finds and use them as well. Angie over at baby cheapskate is another great source for good sales. The lady is a saving machine and I admire her tremendously when it comes to finding coupon codes and great …read more
Frugal Challenge Saturday – Be creative with your money

Over the past 2 weeks, I have told you about 2 thrifty challenges I have overcome. The first one was that I took out the coupons of the boxes of Kaboom that I bought before I bought them so that I could use the coupons inside. It was the last day and I was going to use the coupons anyway. The second one was that I drove all around town, enlisted the help of my friends (they already knew I was cheap and crazy), and saved a ton of money on the paint I wanted to use. You could only …read more
Frugal Challenge Saturday – Plants

My dad has a beautiful plant on his back yard. He keeps promising me that no one can kill it. We will see about that. I will let you know how mine survives the wilderness in a few months. But I digress. I want to plant it along the outskirts of my yard as a boundary of sorts. The plant is called a wandering Jew plant and is absolutely beautiful. I hope it works well and doesn’t get eaten by the wildlife around my house.
Your frugal challenge for Saturday is to be patient with your plants. I intend to buy …read more

I know that without a shadow of a doubt, if my DH goes to the grocery store any way but on a full stomach, he spends way more than needed. So the Frugal Challenge for Saturday is to plan your shopping trips. Here are some tips to save money while shoppingl.
Never go to the grocery store hungry.
Plan a list and stick to it.
Keep your eyes above eye level. The impulsive buying items are strategically placed at eye level. And don’t be fooled. That is not just for the check out isle either.
Look down to the lowest level in the grocery …read more
Frugal Challenge Saturday – Kids clothes

My goal when buying my kids their clothes is to not spend more than $3.50 on any given summer outfit. I have splurged a little this year and have averaged $4/outfit just because I haven’t had much to choose from this year. My challenge to you is to do your homework and keep under a certain budget for clothes. Utilize yard sales and consignment shops as much as possible. The other single greatest blessing I have found is hand-me-downs. Parents, this does not count towards your average so don’t get excited. The challenge is to pick a price that you …read more

I am loving the frugal Saturday challenge. Are you? I got an email from the Flyladies this week about doing a 27 fling boogie. These have become very liberating to me. A 27 fling boogie is a periodic surprise email that tells you to go throughout your home or a specific room and throw away 27 pieces of junk that you have accumulated. This keeps your house form getting cluttered. It is a great way to keep that junk mail from piling up because each piece counts towards the 27 fling boogie. Well this week we got an email for …read more

Hey everyone! How’s it going? Last weekend, we talked about cooking a meal for only $10. This weekend, I have laundry on the brain. Karen and I must be thinking alike. So the frugal challenge for Today is doing your laundry without getting backed up. Frugal is sometimes time related. I find that the main reason I get backed up is the fact that I hate to put it up. If you have little ones, they can’t help but if you have older kids, just place their clothes on their beds and make them put their clothes up themselves. They …read more
