I realize that my co-author (hi, Karen) will cringe at this post , but I have to tell you that I saved almost 50% on my grocery bill with NO coupons. I have said over and over again that most grocery stores run pretty good sales if you follow them closely. Watch Out for Reduced Product Sizes

Last week I went to Lowe’s Foods to do my regular grocery shopping and I was going to pick up some ice cream for my hubby.  He really enjoys ice cream and Lowe’s had their Edy’s ice cream buy 1 get 1 free. 
I was shocked when I saw that most of the ice cream containers were 1.5 quart containers, rather than the usual 1.75 quarts.  There were still a few 1.75 quart sizes left, but not many.  I managed to get 1 larger size in the cookies ‘n cream, but they only had the smaller size in the espresso chip.

Saving money with a grocery list

So this week, I got online and found my wonderful Taste of Home website.  They have a great low fat section as well.  So I went online and picked out 5 recipes I wanted to try this week.  They were Makeover Chicken Delight, Makeover Spinach Tuna Casserole, Mexican Shrimp bisque (shrimp is on sale this week), Asparagus Beef Lo Mien, and Southwestern Bean Soup.  So, once I figured out what we were eating this week, I sat down and made out my list.  I also went throughout the house and figured out what I was running low on.  Then I …read more

A sneaky way to save some money at the grocery store

I recently heard Clark Howard say that you can save up to 30% at the grocery store simply by buying store brands. Hum … That makes a lot of sense. The stores also tend to put their store brand on sale before they put the name brands on sale. Something else that you might not think about is where you look. The store will put the most expensive brands and items at either your eye level or your kids’ level. So look lower or higher to find the best deals.
