Baby Center has halloween costumes on sale as well. I love Baby Center’s store. They have great stuff and layering pieces to put under the costumes as well.

Halloween costumes for multiple uses

I love hearing that Karen’s husband did a great thing when he went shopping and came home with Alligator’s favorite Halloween costume for cheap! I am usually never tempted to buy Halloween costumes just because we don’t celebrate the holiday nor do we go anywhere. So there is no necessity for it. But this year, I splurged. We just finished decorating Turkey Butt’s room in butterflies. It is beautiful and my girlfriend did a fabulous job with her curtains! So when I ran across a butterfly costume for Turkey Butt, I enjoyed looking at it but wasn’t really tempted… Until I found the catch. The wings come off with Velcro and I could put it on her wall after the holiday. I was really excited because the colors match perfectly and I had one spot left to fill on her wall. I could justify spending $22 on a costume since I was going to use it for multiple uses. I can handle that. I would have had to pay for both items and even cheap, I still would have spent something similar so I saved time by getting the costume and reusing the parts.

When Waiting Pays Off

It was settled. My daughter was going to be a princess for Halloween. I mean, why not? She already has 3-4 princess outfits, plus I picked up some cute little white glittery shoes at Target for 75% off. But then it happened.

We went to Target and we spotted a Uniqua Backyardigans costume. Backyardigans has been her new favorite cartoon for a few months now. I saw the price tag. Twenty-five dollars!!!! I just couldn’t justify paying $25 for a costume. It sure was cute though.

And then we saw the Backyardigans Pablo costume. Now wouldn’t that be cute? Alligator could dress as Uniqua and Cuddlebug could dress as Pablo. But, 50!?!!! My husband and I just couldn’t justify spending $50 on costumes for our kids.

We agreed not to spend $50 on costumes, so naturally I just couldn’t understand it when my daughter walked around the corner aisle with my husband and she was wearing a Uniqua costume! What was he thinking? She would have her heart set on it now.

We told her we wouldn’t buy the costume that day, that we would look around on the internet for less expensive ones. We searched around on the internet and ebay, but to our surprise even the used ones on ebay were going for $20.

For a few days, my daughter talked about the possibility of being Uniqua. Finally, all the talk faded and she was thrilled when someone gave her a beautiful second hand Cinderella dress.

I knew my daughter would be satisifed with being Cinderella, but as parent there was just something inside of me that wanted to give my daughter her wish. Parents usually want to give their kids what they want (within reason!) and give them things that they didn’t have. Deep inside, I wrestled with and tried to justify paying $50 for costumes.

Then the unexpected happened. My husband was out running some errands Saturday and he stopped at a close out store that just opened a few months ago. He came home with a Uniqua costume for $10! He also picked up a Spiderman costume for Cuddlebug for $7.50. He’d rather be Spiderman anyway.

The Uniqua costume even had a price tag on the back from the original store that read $24.99. And the Spiderman costume is too cute because it is stuffed a little in the arms and peck area to make him look muscular.

Both kids are delighted and we’re happy that we got both costumes for less than $20. Now that’s thrifty!

Babystyle has an adorable Blooming Babe Flower Costume for Toddlers on sale as long as the supplies last. Get one quick for next year’s Halloween because it is the most adorable costume I have seen in years. $9 isn’t too bad.

Do You Have a Thrifty Costume?

Do you or your child have a thrifty costume this year? If so, please email me a picture and some details. Please include how you acquired it (yard sale, consignment store, hammy down, etc.) and how much it cost. I will be posting some of these pictures and deals later this week. Check back later.

Until then, here are my thrifty finds.

What a face! This is my 15 month old son. He is dressed as Pooh, who is dressed as a bee. My aunt used to work at the Disney Store. She got this cute costume for about $5-6 after Halloween a few years ago. My daughter also wore this for her second Halloween. The only problem is that the shimmery stuff on the wings started coming off before she even wore it, so we had to peel it off.

Another silly face for you. She was squinting in the other pictures. When we told her to stop, she tried to pull her eyes open. Silly girl! This is my 3 year old daughter. I got this costume at a consignment sale. I can’t remember if it is Old Navy or Gap. The great thing about this costume is that it has a separate one piece black fleece suit which I think would be great for playing outside on a cool day. You could also use a pair of thin black pants and shirt instead of the fleece if you had a warm Halloween day. This was a great deal at $4.

Black Magic Carved Pumpkin - I have never seen one of these black pumpkins before. You could be the only one in the neighborhood with a black pumpkin.

Seasonal Spice Syrup – Sounds yummy. Makes me want to curl up in front of the fire.

Face paint recipe – Here is a frugal recipe for making your own face paint. This recipe really comes in handy for those costumes needing a lot of make up (such as “The Hulk).

Little Lamb Costume – So cute! Great for a last minute idea.

Pumpkin Illuminaries – Nice idea. I think they’re a simplistic and elegant decoration.

Cardboard box costumes – Use a cardboard box, some paint, and imagination to make a costume.

Blue’s Clues costume – Make your own Blue or Magenta costume. Affordable and reusable.
