50+ Ideas to Keep Us from Wasting Food

At one time or another, we’re all going to have excess food, whether it be leftovers or fruits and veggies that are about to go bad.  Sometimes it’s hard to think of what we’ll do with them so that we don’t waste food.  To help us all out, I’ve compiled a list of ideas.  Enjoy!
 1.  Use over ripe bananas to make banana bread.
 2.  Use apples, peaches, etc to make a pie or cobbler.  Umhmmm!
 3.  Leftover grilled chicken tastes great on top of a salad!
 4.  Have excess bread?  Make stuffing or croutons.
 5.  Use your excess hamburger to make a sloppy joe …read more

What Do You Do With Turkey Leftovers?

“On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, left over turkey.  On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me, turkey casserole that she made from that turkey.” This was a song from a commercial that aired a few years ago.  These may not be the exact words from the song, but I remember the commercial because it was a funny, catchy tune that talked about the many ways to use leftover turkey.
After Thanksgiving and Christmas, I always look forward to turkey and mustard sandwiches.  I also enjoy making turkey salad.  I just chop up …read more

What to do with leftover Turkey

I realize that it is too late to keep the leftover Thanksgiving turkey but Christmas is right around the corner.  Pat over at About.com has some great ideas as to what to do with those leftovers.  Here are my favorites:

Turkey and Noodle soup.  Just like chicken, just with a different bird
Barbeque Turkey.  Shred it and add barbeque sauce.  YUM!!!
Turkey pot pie.  There is a fabulously easy recipe on the back of the bisquick box.  My family loves it!

Keep this in mind when you think about all the turkey to come.  UUGGHH!!  More turkey

Thrifty way to let leftovers keep your entire family happy.

I love a great idea for leftovers.  Mainly because I don’t like to eat leftovers and anything that will make leftovers more appetizing works for me.  About.com has a list of great ideas for leftovers and more ways to stay frugal in the kitchen.  I like, and have used, the tip on taking salt out of a soup or stew by putting a potato in for a while and then taking it out.  Pat also has a good tip for keeping everyone in the house happy with leftovers.

Put leftover food in serving sized containers and freeze. Individual yogurt cups are …read more

A great use of leftover veggies to fight a cold.

I just found a great recipe for making you feel better when you have a cold. About.com has a great article on how to recycle your veggies in a healthy and frugal way. Next time you peal carrots, potatoes, onions, etc…, freeze it until you have a gallon of peelings. Then take it and boil it until everything basically falls apart. Drain it and drink the broth to help you feel better or save the broth and use it for a vegetable stew. Great ideas for health and happiness. I love this site.
