I’m talking about the movie Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. I have always loved that movie and didn’t really realize it until I was way older that it wasn’t exactly the most Christian, wholesome movie to watch.

I must say that I am extremely sorry for the Travolta’s family loss and have chosen to let them mourn in peace.

So I am sure that DH will be THRILLED to know that Turkey Butt and I are watching Grease for the first time in her tender, sweet life. WE have danced and laughed and had such a great time and we have only had 2 songs. She doesn’t realize we I am destroying her fragile existence but I think she will forgive me soon enough

We love to watch movies and that includes new ones, however as a family it costs roughly $35 just to get tickets. This doesn’t include food and drinks. By the end of the movie we may have spent a whopping $60, but this only happens on a rare occasion. We’ve learned a few new tricks on having a thrifty movie night. These are tricks anyone can do, even when you have kids.

First, you can either rent movies or buy them and I’m not meaning buy the brand new ones that cost $20 or more. Go to the bargain movies, you know the ones in those bins that are marked for $1 or $5. Yes, these may be slightly old but it’ll be something new to you and your family. Pick out a few you’d like to watch as a family. Head over to the grocery aisle and pick up a box of popcorn, chips or whatever your snack of choice is and some beverages. In the end you’ve spent less money then you would buying tickets for the family.

My favorite place to get movies is the dollar rentals, which for me is something called the Redbox inside my local McDonald’s. You can rent any new dvd rentals that come out every Tuesday and return it the next day. I normally grab 2-3 of them and go to Wal-mart to get snacks. One box of popcorn can last for several movie nights and I also grab Kool-Aid for my kids and on rare occasions we’ll get the no name .60 2 liter bottle of soda.

As you can see it can be a thrifty movie night that the entire family will enjoy.

Eliza is a wife and stay-at-home mother to four children that range from 11 years to 1. When she isn’t busy playing video games with them or changing diapers, she enjoys blogging and reading books. For a more personal view of her life, you can find her blogging about motherhood at Babylune or The Life of a Home Mom.

OK, I am a movie buff and I am totally stumped! It’s driving me crazy. Does anybody know what movie has a main character dancing to Jumpin’ Jack Flash and looking pretty silly doing it? I can see it plain as day in my mind. I think it’s a late 80’s early 90’s movie but I can’t remember and it’s driving me crazy!
HELP!!!

I just found out about a site called Kids-In-Mind. This site gives parents the skinny on what’s going on in a movie. Each movie receives a rating of 1-10 in the areas of sex, violence, and profanity. Very detailed information is given, including which profane words were used, what the actors were wearing, if there is any name-calling, and more. I was pretty impressed with the specifics for the reviews.
Here is a snippet from the review for “Miss Potter”:

I just found out about a site called Kids-In-Mind. This site gives parents the skinny on what’s going on in a movie. Each movie receives a rating of 1-10 in the areas of sex, violence, and profanity. Very detailed information is given, including which profane words were used, what the actors were wearing, if there is any name-calling, and more. I was pretty impressed with the specifics for the reviews.

Here is a snippet from the review for “Miss Potter”:

SEX/NUDITY 2 – A man and a woman kiss, a man and a woman dance together, and a man touches a woman’s hand tenderly.
► Women wear low-cut dresses at a party.
► A man and a woman are left alone in her room when their chaperone falls asleep. A woman talks about her daughter not being able to attract a man to marry.

The purpose of Kids-In-Mind is to provide adults with complete information about a movie’s content so that they can decide, based upon their own value system, whether or not they want to see the movie or show it to their children.

I give Kids-In-Mind a thumbs up! Another good site for movie and music reviews is Plugged In Online. Both sites are offered for free. For as little as $12/year you can subscribe to Kids-In-Mind and receive advance reviews without the ads.

Thanks to Goody blog for the tip!

Recently I shared some great tips on how to go see a new movie on the thrifty side. My DH and I used to go see an average of 3-4 movies a month at the theater. That was pre-diapers and baby sitters. HAHA! Now, we tend to rent movies and pray we return them on time to avoid late fees. So what movies should you watch? How about a good list of date movies? Funny you should ask me that. I just happened to come across a great top 10 list for date night from CBN and actually like the [...]
Post from: Thrifty Mommy

I love date night. I just don’t like to shell out a bunch of money. Most people have family that can help out with babysitting, so they don’t have to pay. We don’t. The blessing in our life is that we have a couple of teenagers that love watching our daughter. We pay them in meals, movies, etc since they won’t take payment. They are wonderful to us. The other day we went to see Superman. (What a good movie by the way) We used to go to the movies at any time. Now we only go when we can [...]

Now we only go when we can use discount tickets or go to see them during matinees. We save $5 that way. As far as drinks, I have to say that legally you are not allowed to bring in food or drinks from outside the theater. I can remind you; however, that there usually are water fountains at most theaters. Water from fountains is still free. Bottled water is now usually $3 or more at the theater. I REFUSE to pay that much for water! Here are some tips for saving money on a date.

Watch the matinee showing. They are usually cheaper.

Eat at home before you go to the movie. That way you won’t be tempted to eat there. If you really want to eat out, go somewhere that you have a coupon for.

Drink water from the fountain or bring a glass from home and fill it up.

If you are a patient person, wait a few weeks and you can use your discount tickets at night.

Anybody else have any good tips? I’d love to hear it as my DH and I really enjoy a good movie.
