My husband and I were out of town for job training last week and on the way home we stopped to get gas. I was floored when my North Carolina State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) debit card did not work. What to do? We had to have gas to get home! Thankfully, we had a credit card in our wallet for emergencies.

Thrifty Entertainment in Western North Carolina

I’ve lived in North Carolina for most of my life. I know that there are a lot of beautiful places to see. Here are a few inexpensive places to visit in Western North Carolina.
Hendersonville:
Take a stroll through downtown Hendersonville. There are some nice shops and antique stores. I’m sure the old soda shop is still there too. They also have a general store.
Visit the Carl Sandburg home. I’ve been there several times and always enjoy the tour. A guided tour is only $5.
Stop for a show at the Flat Rock Playhouse.

Wordless Wednesday: Bald Head Island

Welcome to Wordless Wednesday. This one will actually have words, because I want to tell you about our trip.
Friday we left the kids with my parents and spend a night away at Bald Head Island, NC. This was our first getaway in 3 years!
As you can probably tell from the pictures, it was really cold and overcast while we were there. We stayed at a bed and breakfast for the first time ever. It was so nice. Since it was off season, it wasn’t too expensive.

Goodwill Needs Our Help!

As cold weather moves into the Carolinas, the demand for clothing and other items is high. Goodwill donations are down and they need our help. Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont is urging people to donate items to their nearest Goodwill retail store or donation center as soon as possible.
Items most wanted right now include coats, sweaters, men’s suits, children’s clothing, shirts, blouses, jeans, dresses, skirts, sweat suits, coats, shoes, and blankets. Also needed are small kitchen appliances, household items and electronics, including computers.
