Finally finished painting

My DH has finally finished painiting the kid’s rooms. Bet you were wondering why I had been absent these last few days. I have been helping my DH paint he nursery and KM’s room. I also went back to work 5 days a week at 7 am. Let me tell you the new schedule kicks my butt! The good news is, I only work 2 10-hr shifts and 3 3-hr shifts. Although, I have to admit, I haven’t gotten off on my short day on time yet. So I am really glad that the painting is finished. Today we should get the closets done and the crib put together. Hopefully, anyway.

Frugal Challenge Saturday – Be creative with your money

Over the past 2 weeks, I have told you about 2 thrifty challenges I have overcome. The first one was that I took out the coupons of the boxes of Kaboom that I bought before I bought them so that I could use the coupons inside. It was the last day and I was going to use the coupons anyway. The second one was that I drove all around town, enlisted the help of my friends (they already knew I was cheap and crazy), and saved a ton of money on the paint I wanted to use. You could only buy 1 item at a time, with one coupon, on one day, at one store. So I had to do some finagling. This allowed me to save around $300.

The Challenge for you today is to be crafty with your money. I could have just said that I had to wait until I bought the Kaboom systems and then go back through the line but that would have wasted my time. Have you seen the lines at Wal-Mart lately? And I could have just dragged my DH to one store in 2 days and gotten a gallon of paint for each of us but I chose to enlist the help of friends. I would do it for them and they chose to do it for me. Thank you, by the way!

So don’t be embarrassed to save money. Cut coupons, take advantage of sales, and offer to help your friends when something crazy like a very restrictive sale goes on so that they can help you. We have to come together in times of money savings. If we aren’t protective of our hard earned money, I can promise you someone else will get it and be VERY protective of it.

Thrifty paint sale if you work it

Ok, so what did you do for the 4th? I saved $300 on paint. I went back and figured it up. My DH likes a particular brand of paint. We are planning on painting all 3 bedrooms this weekend and needed to buy the paint. We bought the paint this weekend but had to work the system.

The deal was that you could go to the store and get 1 item at 50% off. One coupon, per person, per item, per day. The sale only lasted 2 days. So I took my finally back from camp, whom my DD asked for every day she was gone, babysitter, MM, and we went to 2 of the hardware stores and got a 5 gallon bucket of primer and 3 gallons of paint. I should have looked at the fine print because I lost $65.60 by doing that. The deal was that you got 50% off up to $25 on any one item so I would have been better off getting it by the gallon. But none the lest, I recruited friends to help us buy the rest yesterday and got a total of $300 off my paint. I was so excited. For a minute there I was wondering if it was worth the gas to go to the multiple stores in town but when looking at the savings, I was pleased with the outcome. I ended up with 22 gallons of paint and primer. Now all we have to do is get it up on the walls.

Just thought I would let you in on a great bargain. Now we can paint with just a little less guilt.

New Years resolutions from the pregnant one

The Family and Relations Channel at b5 is hosting another channel carnival soon. We are supposed to tell our New Year’s resolutions. I hate to be the rebel so I am going to post mine and then let Karen post the real one. She’s much better at being nice than I am.

Am I in a bad mood? Of course not! That takes too much effort and I like to smile and laugh too much! I just hate making New Year’s resolutions only to see myself fail miserably. I can do that on my own without setting myself up to begin with.

So here are my inside out resolutions:

I am going to gain around 30 pounds. I’m pregnant. Did you expect anything different from me? Hope I can lose most of it before next year though.
I am going to buy bigger clothes. I’m pregnant. Did you expect anything different from me? I hope I will be back into a 12 before next year though.
I am going to spend less time with my daughter this summer. I’m pregnant and due in July. Did you expect anything different from me? I will lose a lot of time in the summer so I hope to make up for it this spring.
I am going to lose a lot of sleep this year. I’m pregnant. Did you expect anything different from me? I get up every few hours each night whether the DD is sleeping or not. This summer will get worse. Next year will be better!
I am gong to spend money on stupid stuff this year. I’m pregnant. Did you expect anything different from me? Hormones make you buy the dumbest stuff for the new baby when it will only want me, daddy, and their big sister to play with.

So there you have it. My New Year’s resolutions with a unique twist and a common thread. Hope it will make you smile and remember what it was like when you or your wife were going through the most exciting time you will share. I do catch a lot of flack from friends and co-workers because I love being pregnant. The cramps, huge stomach, and weight gain are all worth it to me. I would do this all over again if the DH wants to. Just don’t ask Robyn. I think she might actually be done after 4. Love ya, girl!

Free summer activity for the kids.

Need some ideas for summer activities that don’t cost an arm and a leg? My old church used to let the kids go outside and paint on the brick. The cleanup was left to the sun. How was this possible? They painted with water! You can see the wet on the brick or sidewalk but it won’t mess up the kids’ clothes or the house. And the clean up is a breeze, no pun intended. And the best part is that if you already have paint brushes, the activity is FREE! Can’t argue with that price tag.
