10 Thrifty Ways to Save Money with Pets

10 Thrifty Ways to Save Money with Pets

It doesn’t take long for pet owners to figure out just how expensive animals can be.  Sometimes it’s like owning a child.  Some of the expenses you may incur are shots, neutering or spaying, an invisible fence, litter box, cat litter, food, leashes, toys, chew toys, cage or home, travel carrier, and more.  Although these things can be expensive, there are some ways to help you save.
1)  Sign up for a freecycle account.  Just last week I gave away a 3-tier cage.  There are others giving away pet accessories and some freecycle groups will allow pet listings.

Our Thrifty Cat Bed

Now that Cuddlebug is potty trained (woohoo!) I’ve been getting rid of some of his diapering accessories.  I was going to put his table top changing pad in my yard sale pile, but my cat decided to use it for her new bed.

Free Shipping at PetsMart

Right now PetsMart is offering free ground shipping on orders of $50 or more.  No code is required.  This offer expires July 31, 2007.
My email from PetsMart stated that free shipping was for orders of $40 or more.  I am guessing this is available to PetPerks members.  If you haven’t done so, you may want to sign up for PetPerks and order less.
This free shipping sounds like a good opportunity to avoid a trip to the store with kids.  lol

Free Smiles

Sorry I haven’t been around much this week.  Most of my free time lately has been spent working on our taxes.  This activity is definitely on my top 10 of things I despise.
I hope to finish up tonight or tomorrow afternoon and then I’ll be back on schedule. Until then, I have some cute pictures for you to look at over at The Weather Channel.  You go can there and view the animal pictures, get yourself some smiles, and even submit your own photos.

Keep your pets safe during Easter

With all the sad news coming out about pet food and recalls, I thought I would help you keep your pets safe for Easter. I ran across an interesting article form Thrifty Fun that tells of the every day Easter items that could be harmful to your pets.

Chocolate – of course! It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, irregular heart beat, seizures, and death due to the Theobromine
Easter Grass – when digested, it can cause intestinal blockage
