Recently I was talking to a friend. In the conversation, I mentioned that I was going on a business trip to New York and regretted that I couldn’t stay a few more days and site see. When he asked why, I told him that we had recently purchased a home and didn’t have any extra money at the moment. He replied that he had always been a renter and always would be because he liked having the freedom and extra money in his pocket.

We have been married for 14 years and we have never owned new living room furniture. Not ever. Through the years, we have purchased used furniture from friends and borrowed some from my parents. Finally, this year I was determined to buy a new set . . . until I saw my neighbor’s new furniture for sale. He only wanted $100 for his one-year-old Lane recliner couch that he never sat on and $100 for the one-year-old leather recliner. Of course, I bought it.
