Turkey Butt loves Strawberry Milk. When she was little, she refused anything but breast milk. I couldn’t get her to drink regular milk. We tried everything. Finally we got her to drink my favorite milk when I was a kid – Strawberry Milk.
Recently I found that there is a recall for the 21.8 oz containers of Nestle Quick Strawberry Powder for small fragments of aluminum. The 2 product codes affected are “82255880″ and “82265880″. Look on the bottom of the plastic containers to see if yours need to be thrown out.

I regret to inform you that last night, stores began pulling Aqua Dots from shelves after it was discovered that it contains a chemical that converts into the date rape drug if swallowed.
CPSC has received two reports over the past several days of children swallowing Aqua Dots. A 20-month-old child swallowed several dozen beads. He became dizzy and vomited several times before slipping into a comatose state for a period of time, was hospitalized, and has since fully recovered. I have to say that there are justified recalls for things like lead and choking and then there is the bumbo recall. The recall states that there have been 28 reports of babies falling out of the seat from high places. Some due to the children being left unattended. Am I missing something dangerous here?

Come on folks! Why would you leave your child unattended in a seat anywhere but on the floor? And that should only be if the child is the only one there with no pets. I am a mom of 2 and I will only leave my baby, who is not mobile yet, alone if he is attached to a bouncy or swing and only if it is for a minute (sometimes you just want to go to the bathroom in peace.) The idea of leaving a baby alone in a seat that is not attached to either the child OR the surface to which it sits is something I can’t wrap my brain around. That’s like leaving a baby alone in a bouncy on the bar no matter how secure the baby is. Bouncy’s vibrate off counters and readjust. Then where is your baby? On the floor with a skull fracture. Oh wait, that is what they are saying about the bumbo! So why don’t you just use good common sense and leave the bumbo on the floor where you are told to put it by the directions anyway!

The directions state to “Never use on a raised surface”. I admit I have used it on the counter but I would have never dreamed of walking away. I just wanted you to know that the recall is not a real recall. The product is not defective and you do not have to send it back. They just want you to contact them for a sticker that tells you to be safe with the product by not leaving yoru child alone or putting it on high surfaces. This, to me, is just common sense.

I am off to buy a tray for my bumbo. HAHA

I received an email from Toys-R-Us that wanted to reassure me about the toys at Toys-R-Us and the safety recalls that have occured. I thought you would like to read it as I thought it sounded very sincere.

September 12, 2007Dear Valued Guest,
As a father of five children, I understand the concerns parents have about product safety. And, as the CEO of the world’s largest toy and baby products retailer, I can assure you that nothing is more important to our company than the safety of children.
September 12, 2007Dear Valued Guest,

As a father of five children, I understand the concerns parents have about product safety. And, as the CEO of the world’s largest toy and baby products retailer, I can assure you that nothing is more important to our company than the safety of children. It is at the heart of who we are as a company.

The issue of product safety goes well beyond business and directly to the well-being of the families we serve. We are wholly committed to our customers’ safety and have reiterated that simple, single fact to our suppliers and business partners. We will not tolerate products that do not meet our rigorous safety standards.

When it comes to the safety of children, the bar can never be too high, and we are constantly looking at ways to build on our already substantial safety efforts. That is why today we are announcing further improvements that will ensure you have access to even more rapid and detailed information on safety issues. These improvements include:

- A new Safety microsite at www.Toysrus.com/Safety to help you find all product safety and recall information;
- The introduction of an email notification system for product recalls;
- The addition of bilingual recall notices should there be future recalls; and
- The introduction of new Safety Boards in all of our stores, which will contain important product safety information, including recall notices

As the toy and baby products authority, we understand the unique role we play as the conduit between manufacturers and our customers. It is a role we take very seriously and requires our constant vigilance. On behalf of the entire Toys “R” Us, Inc. family, please know that we will continue to work tirelessly to guarantee we are doing everything we can to provide only the safest shopping environment for all families.

Imports are generally carefully scrutinized.” Seems to me that they can take care of their own but just want to sell us anything we are dumb enough to buy. My fault for assuming our imports are being tested for sanitation and safety.

I did feel sorry for the owner of the manufacturing plant that made all the toys that were recalled. Just owning up to a mistake would have made me happy. The owner decided he felt so bad that he killed himself. As a parent, I understand the frustration of not knowing what is safe to let my kids play with. I have Dora plates that my Turkey Butt loves to eat from and am wondering whether to let her continue using but it isn’t worth killing yourself over. I feel sorry that he didn’t have enough faith in himself to pick up the pieces.
