Stockpile Opportunity: Strawberries

I stopped in Harris Teeter today for just a few moments to snag four 1 pound containers of strawberries. They’re only $1.25 per carton! At this price, you can buy some for now and stockpile them in the freezer for those winter months.
I bought four cartons today and I plan to use them for smoothies, baking, and just plain for good eating. Then I’ll wash, cut, and freeze about two pounds.

Thrifty folks are happy when they cut costs anywhere but in particular it seems like thrifty people are most happy when they save a lot on groceries. This Week’s Grocery Trip Under $40

Since there was interest in my $40 a week grocery budget, I thought I’d share this week’s trip with you. I will still be going to Walgreen’s and buying some things, but I’ll be paying with $15 in Register Rewards, so I didn’t save anything back from the grocery budget for the Walgreen’s trip.

Groceries at Forty Dollars a Week

Kelli asked me to share how I keep my groceries at $40 a week. I have to start by saying I only have a part time kid and he isn’t in diapers anymore. When my sister and her husband and two kids lived here, the grocery budget was through the roof. Now, I just have my nephew part of the time and my brother full time to feed. I also have a stock pile of items – enough shampoo and toothpaste to last me through March 2009, etc.

Did you know you can save money by shopping the perimeter of your supermarket first? It’s true! All your important staples are lining the perimeter; you’ll find meat, dairy, fruit and veggies on the walls surrounding the stores. Most people don’t overspend in these areas.
