Vinegar 101 for sunburns

All my life, my mom has treated my sunburns with only one treatment, VINEGAR! We all know how fabulous vinegar works. I love it for multiple reasons. But for sunburns, my mom would poor it over ice and wet a wash cloth with it. I hardly ever pealed and the sting would be gone in just a few minutes. I use to laugh at my friends who would always try to be mean and pop me on my burn but it wouldn’t hurt me because of the vinegar treatment. Any time we go to the beach, I take a gallon with me. Summer is coming soon and sunburns are inevitable. Ever go by the sunburn isle and glance at the prices of those “sure fire” sunburn cures? You could spend a fortune. When I was a little girl, my grandma would always have an aloe vera plant around for when we got any kind of burn. My mom would have a bottle of vinegar handy all summer. Turns out, according to the frugal guru, Pat Verreto, both are great. She has some other great ideas such as using cool tea and peppermint tea. Here comes the sunny season. READY … SET… GO!

Vinegar takes the cake!

I have talked about Vinegar before but it stands to reason that this gift from God should be acknowledged again. Ok, I’m just cheap and vinegar is multifaceted. You can use it for just about anything from cleaning to rust removal. I actually used it to remove plaster from my linoleum floor when we moved into our new house and had to plaster the walls. Have a bad sunburn? Fill a bowl with ice and cover it with vinegar. Then soak a wash cloth with the cold vinegar and place it on the sunburn until the washcloth is warm. Repeat this until the sting and heat goes away. You will peel less and the sting will be gone. I buy a bottle of vinegar at the beginning of every summer. Thanks, Mom, for the great summer ritual!
