Toy Clearance at Target

June 18, 2009 by Karen Weideman

I went into Target today and found that they are marking down some of their toys 30-50% off.  Selection varies by store, but here are a few of the things that caught my eye:

magnext-toy

  • Pet Shop figures
  • Pet Shop play sets
  • animal backpacks
  • baby dolls
  • board games (Partini and a few others)
  • WordWorld toys
  • dog clothing and dog carrier (for the dog stuffed animals)
  • MagNext sets (select ones)
  • baby/toddler toys (including one by Parents)
  • bath toys

J had a gift card left from his birthday and so he purchased the MagNext Drawer Case.  They were normally $24.99, but he got them for $11.99.  I also picked up another set for the same price to use as a gift for him (probably for Christmas).  It helps to shop ahead, if you know that your child will like the item later on.

Target also has a nice selection of clearanced toys online.  For some reason, the MagNext that we purchased are not on clearance on their site.

Good luck and let me know what you find.

Grocery Deals at Target

February 16, 2009 by Karen Weideman

We went to the big city last night (heehee) and stopped by Super Target.  I found some good grocery deals.

Egglands Best eggs are $1.47/dozen.  This is a great price, as regular large eggs cost more than this sale price.  I bought 3 dozen!

Jones All Natural Sausage are on sale for $1.25 per package of 10 links.  Then, there is a coupon on the box to save $1 on 2 boxes.

Kraft shredded cheese is $2 per 8 oz package.  And if you can find a coupon, even better.

Top round steak is $1.99/lb.  These kinds of steaks are great for stir fry and fajitas, which is a fave around here.  I bought 4 packages.

Pork roast is $2.19/lb.  I bought a 2-3 lb roast and will use this to make Mexican taquitos one meal and chilie verde (new recipe) for church.

More Target Deals

We were out running errands today and passed by a different Target.  I told hubby I wanted to stop to see if they had some different bargains from the other Target we visited Friday night.

Some things we got:

ping pong set - includes paddles, balls, net, and post $12.99 $6.48
Black & Decker 24v cordless drill $49.99 $24.98  Hubby has been wanting a new drill because his old one doesn’t keep a charge. Glad we waited for a deal!
Littlest Pet Shop digital pet $12.99  $3.24 - I got 2 of these and will certainly use them for gifts.
Woof Street Boutique clothes $12.99 $3.24 - This will go great with the Woof Street pup I got on clearance last week. I think I’ll save this set for Alligator’s birthday.
John Deere Johnny Tractor & Friends 60 pc puzzle $3.99 $.98

I also picked up a few 75% off clothing items for the kids.  These were $1.25-$2.48 each.  And I know this wasn’t on sale, but I got a 2 pack of Holly Hobbie dvds for $9.99.  The reason I got them is because Alligator likes Holly Hobbie and doesn’t have any of the dvds.  They’re usually $9.99 each, so this was a good deal.  These will be a gift for later.

Have you found any deals at Target?

Extra 30% Off Target Clearance Clothes

January 16, 2009 by Karen Weideman

My friend called me from Target this week to tell me that Target is having an additional 30% off their clearanced clothing.  I was like, “What?!“.  I’ve never heard of them doing that.  They’ve already got some amazing clearance deals in there anyway.  I can’t imagine getting another 30% off.

I’m headed out to the big city (grin) tonight.  I hope we can make it to Target to check out the sales.  This is the time of year when I try to purchase toys on clearance too.

You may want to call your local Target to see if they are having this sale.  Also, remember, it’s not a deal if you have to charge it on your credit card and pay interest fees.

Good luck everyone!  Let me know what you find.

My Black Friday

December 1, 2008 by Karen Weideman

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my hubby and I got up early and headed out for the Black Friday sales.  Let me just say that I had a hard time falling asleep the night before, which I think might have been caused by a yummy latte from Dunkin Donuts.  lol  I forgot to get decaf and so  I only got 3 1/2 hours of sleep.

We headed out and our first stop was Wal-Mart.  I had no circular for Wal-Mart so I had no clue what was on sale.  There were palettes of sweatshirts and pajamas.  People were digging through them like crazy.  It was tempting to get Alligator girl a set of pajamas, but seriously she does not need any and truthfully, they looked really cheap.  I did settle on a hooded fleece Lightning McQueen sweatshirt for Cuddlebug.  It was $4.  While at Wal-Mart, we also picked up some of the dvds that were $2-3.  I was pleased that I got a coat for Cuddlebug for $8.  His old coat from last year is a size 2T-3T and it isn’t oversized like most coats.

When we first arrived at Wal-Mart, it was pretty quiet.  It was about 4:50 am and many people were just standing in the aisles with their carts and waiting.  I had no clue what they were lined up for, but at 5 am it got really loud and then I saw people grabbing tvs like crazy.  Their tvs were at an awesomely low price.  Too bad I didn’t have the extra money.  Maybe next year.

Next, we headed to Target.  They didn’t open until 6 am and it was insane!  People were lined up down the sidewalk for quite a ways.  The line even stretched up to the next largest store in the plaza.  There were hundreds of people in line.  The Target associates were outside passing out maps of the key items they had on sale.  I head an associate say that there were only a few navigation systems and a limited amount of Guitar Hero games.

Comparing Prices on School Supplies

August 19, 2008 by Karen Weideman
Filed under money saving idea, shopping

I may be alone here, but I am not one of those moms that let’s their kids pick out their own lunchbox.  The lunchbox that I buy needs to suit our needs.  It needs to hold the items that we use most in the right way.  It’s almost like finding the perfect purse.

Yesterday I went to Target and after looking at about 40 or so lunchboxes I finally decided on the Artic Zone lunchbox.  It has a bottom chamber with container, which is perfect for keeping sandwiches safe.  The top part is tall enough that it will hold a sports bottle upright so that it won’t leak.

Finding the right lunchbox is important to me because I don’t want to waste my money on something that doesn’t work for us.  Still, paying $8.99 for a lunchbox made me cringe and complain.  After all, I am a clearance shopper.

I bought the lunchbox at Target and then headed Wal-Mart.  Imagine my surprise when I found the same lunchbox for $6.34.  That’s a savings of $2.65 each!!!!  You can see the pictures here.  Compare the two Artic Zone lunchboxes and you’ll see there is very little difference between the two.  The one on the left is from Wal-Mart and the one on the right is from Target.

artic zone lunchboxes

I purchased the lunchboxes at Wal-Mart and then returned the other one to Target.  I can handle a savings of 30%!

Have you found a big difference in the prices of things between Target and Wal-Mart?

Awesome Target Deals & Some Disappointment

July 8, 2008 by Karen Weideman

Alligator got some birthday money in the mail this weekend, so I took her to Target yesterday for the Barbie clothes she’d be wanting.  I’m not sure about all Target stores, but ours marks down their clearance prices on Monday.

I got there just in time.  There were three ladies working on marking down the children’s clothing.  How does ninety-eight cents sound for shirts and shorts?  Here’s what I got:

  • girls’ strawberry shirt .98
  • boys’ soccer t-shirt .98
  • 2 pairs boys’ camouflage shorts .98 (I got one pair for this year and one for next year.)
  • boys’ striped shirt .98

They also had their 4th of July clothing for half price.  I found a solid navy skort for Alligator for $2.  Gotta love a deal!

Alligator got her Barbie clothes and as we were getting ready to leave, we saw a lady from church.  She always gives the kids in the church $5 for their birthdays, so she gave the kids each $5 (Cuddlebug’s birthday is this month too).  They were excited.

princess jewelry set from targetWe traveled back to the toy section and I thought Alligator would get another Barbie outfit or one of their $5 Barbies.  Instead, she chose this Princess jewelry set.  We got it home and I opened it for her.  As I was taking it out of the package, the bracelet fell to pieces all over the floor.  To top that off, the earrings wouldn’t even stay on her ears.  I tried them on mine too to see if her earlobes were just thin and they wouldn’t stay on mine either.  I was so disappointed with this set!  Last night I strung the bracelet back together and this piece of junk is going back to Target.  Thankfully, she’s five and is able to understand that she’ll have to wait to get something else.  I’m glad I still have my receipt.  Oh well.

I’m pleased with our clothing deals.  Have you found any deals lately?
