Saturday Frugal Challenge – Your shopping list
I have my Christmas shopping list just about complete. Let me give you the best hint that saves me money each year… Make a list and stick to it. I make my list and inevitably find something I like better when I go shopping. The problem is that the gift is usually more than what I would normally spend. So make a list and stick to it.
Also, on all 3 sides of the family, we draw names. That always helps. And for one side, we draw names for the great grandkids and the adults bring one gift for a Chinese …read more

I am already starting my Christmas list. This way, I can find the exact presents I want for less. THIS, my friends, is the way to give a great Christmas for a great price!
Also, I have started talking to my daughter about a Christmas list. We have told her that a list is simply a bunch of choices that her grandparents have to pick from but she will not get everything. She is starting to get it. We also tell her that we have to give more gifts than we receive. So last year, we counted all the gifts we …read more

Yesterday I gave you a teaser on frugal thinking… Or at least a way to think in order to get what you want in life. I also told you I would tell you how I am saving at least $20 a month to put away for Christmas. See, I pay cash for Christmas every year, so any way I can save money and put it towards Christmas I do it. I love McDonald’s tea and fries on the dollar menu. I justify my treat as it comes from the dollar menu so it can’t be too bad. So I started …read more

1) Check consignment stores or thrift stores for maternity clothes. One day I saw a bunch of nice maternity clothes at Good Will. Check your local store a few times as donations will come in regularly. Also, see if you can borrow some from a friend. You probably won’t wear them that long anyway. Another place to look is ebay.
2) Register for your shower. People will be more likely to get you what you need. Also, if you are registered at Target, they have a more flexible return policy.
3) Nurse if you possibly can. Formulas can cost a lot of …read more

I just received an email about these beautiful handmade purses from World Crafts. After seeing these purses, I expected a large price tag, but they are very inexpensive. I also discovered that these bags are made by women in other countries that are earning money to receive an education. Here’s a statement from World Crafts:
The artisans of these bags have learned marketable sewing skills. They work an eight-hour day making quality handbags and receive on-the-job literacy lessons. Each artisan is eventually able to read and sign her own paycheck, which many have never been able to before! By purchasing a …read more

My husband has been complaining about our very expensive canister vacuum since we got it about 6 years ago (FYI – we bought it used). I liked the vacuum cleaner because it was good on carpet and hardwood floors. This past year my husband has been talking to me about getting a Dyson vacuum cleaner. I said there was no way I was going to spend that kind of money.
After my response, my husband began to do something that he does very well. He began to research the many different brands and products that are available. He did some research …read more
