I can’t help but confess that I feel a bit hypocritical writing this post. It’s because my inbox is always so filled with emails. Right now I have over 700 emails. Some days I think I need a secretary. Since I can’t afford a secretary, I’ve decided I need to do some things to get a handle on all this inbox clutter. It is time consuming and it needs to stop. Here’s a few tips I have thought of to simplify our lives and receive less emails.
1) Unsubscribe from unsolicited newsletters. Somehow I am receiving several newsletters that I am …read more

Thanks to Flylady, I am reminded of the 5 minute room rescue. This is where you set your timer for 5 minutes and do a quick clean up. Don’t get the duster out. Just put things away and tidy up. Part of Thrifty Mommy’s original plan was to save you time AND money. This is a great way to keep a tidy house without spending hours. 5 minutes a day in 3 rooms will do a world of good.
So get that timer out and go tidy up a room today! It’s only 5 minutes. …read more

There have been three new crib recalls lately. One was the kissing cousin to Turkey Butt’s crib. I got a little nervous at first until I realized that we had the Aspen 3-in-1 Crib with drawer and not the one they recalled. So here are the three cribs they recalled for different reasons. If you have one of these cribs, contact the manufacturer immediately for further instructions. Your kids are worth it and you spent hard earned money on the cribs. They should replace them for you.

Being home has allowed me to find many great resources to share with you. I normally don’t have much time to watch tv, but sometimes I will turn it on while I am blogging. Today, I was excited to discover Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller.

Here’s some that I found to try:
Steak fajitas with fresh guacamole
Adobo Rice and Black Beans
Hawaiian Pizza
Chicken Pot Pie

I am competent on the computer but my husband is a genious! I am serious. I have sen him typing on a page that doesn’t show up for 2 clicks. By the time that page shows up, he is done typing whatever he needed to type. He knows all the shortcuts and anyone who has seen him fly on the keyboard is amazed. So there! It’s not just a biased opinion. So I am trying to learn all the chortcuts on the keyboard because I see just how much time it saves him instead of using a mouse. As a …read more

I’ve talked to several people lately that wash their dishes by hand because they believe they’re saving energy. Actually, doing less work can save you more money and it also helps the environment.
According to Consumer Reports, an efficient dishwasher can use less water than washing dishes by hand, no matter how frugal you are at the faucet.
Here are some other tips to lower your bill while using your dishwasher:
1. Only run your dishwasher when it is full.
2. Turn it on the energy saver cycle.
3. Don’t prerinse your load.
4. Use an enzyme based detergent to get your dishes completely clean. See …read more
A Thrity Way to Stop Junk Mail

I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand junk mail!!!!! It drives me crazy. Each day I waste my time sorting through it, putting it in the recyling bin, or shredding it. Some days I’ve even pondered just leaving all the junk mail in my mailbox and only taking out what I need. I’m sure that would really annoy my mailman!
And did you know???? We chop down 100,000,000 trees and waste 28 billions gallons of water EVERY YEAR producing this stuff.
So, on behalf of today, Earth Day, I have an alternative. For a dime-a-day, GreenDimes will reduce the marketing …read more
