Quick and easy seasonings for food

Karen had a great idea on making meals easier .  I do something similar with bacon.  When the grocery store runs a good sale on bacon, I buy the biggest package I can get.  Then I freeze and date them in  freezer bags with 2 slices in each.  That way, when I want to cook green beans, spinach, hominy, ect…  I just drop in a couple of peices of frozen bacon.  Yumm!  Very tasty and I never have to worry if the bacon has gone bad and I get it on sale.

Making Meals Easier

I did something last week to save time on meal preparation and I wanted to share this idea with you.
Last week, my local grocery store had hamburger on sale for a really good price.  I bought a large family pack.  I cooked ALL of the ground hamburger and added some ground turkey to help cut down on the fat.
After the hamburger/turkey combination was cooked, I divided the meat up into 1 – 1 1/2 lbs and put it into freezer containers. I let the meat cool for a little bit, wrote the dates on them, and froze them.

Easy Scalloped Potatoes

Yesterday I was cooking dinner and I was looking for something different to do with my potatoes.  I called my Aunt Rosemary.  She seems to have good recipe ideas.  She told me about an easy scalloped potato recipe.  Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the finished product.
5-6 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1-1/2 cups milk
1/2 stick butter or margarine
salt, pepper, or other seasoning
Peel and slice potatoes.  Place in a microwavable casserole dish.  Pour cream of mushroom soup on top of potatoes. Fill empty cream of mushroom can with milk and stir to remove rest of …read more

The Amazing Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

Some friends of ours recently gave us a Little Tikes workbench.  It was dirty and had a lot of crayon markings on it.  I’m not complaining.  It’s a nice toy.  It just needed some cleaning.  I tried baking soda and water, but it just wouldn’t get the crayon completely off.  It did lighten it some, but there was still quite a bit left.  Then I remembered I had a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser under the kitchen sink.  I gave it to my husband and he starting scrubbing.  He was quite amazed.  The crayon wiped right off.  He said, “How does …read more

A Little Something To Make Your Life Easier

I don’t mean to sound like an infomerical , but I was websurfing today and came across the nifty Sili Gourmet Sling.  This sling slips under your turkey, fish, or other meat while you’re cooking it and then allows you to easily pick up the meat without dropping it.  This would certainly come in handy during Christmas and Thanksgiving when you’re cooking the big turkey or Easter for the ham.
The Sili Sling is a silicone lifter for turkey, roasts and fish. The large surface is ideal for lifting large poultry and roasts – holds up to an 18 lb. …read more

Play The Grocery Game and Save Time and Money

Recently, my friend Darlene from church introduced me to “The Grocery Game”.  The Grocery Game is an easy way to save hundreds of dollars each month in groceries.
Teri’s List reveals the lowest sale prices at stores and tracks manufacturer’s coupons to tell you when to use each coupon so that you can get the best price.  It saves you a lot of time and money.
My friend Darlene does great with The Grocery Game.  Many times she pays very little or nothing for items.  She says that she is spending the same amount each month, but she is stocking up and …read more

Diaper Champ Wins My Vote

I remember several years ago visiting my friend Robyn (check out her mommy blog) and at the bottom of her stairs was a long snake like looking thing.  I know I asked Robyn what in the world that thing was and soon discovered it was the bag part of a Diaper Genie.
Well, being pregnant with my first child, my DH and I went to Target and got the scanner because we were going to register for things that we later found out we didn’t need.  LOL  We knew we needed a diaper pail of some sort and a Diaper Genie was …read more

Netflix saves you time and money.

My husband and I used to watch movies so much that the theater practically knew us by site.  Not really but they should have.  Some weekends we would see 3 movies.  Now that was a colossal waste of money.  But then again, that was before kids when we had a little bit to spare.  Then we started renting movies but weren’t very good at returning them on time.  I can, embarrassed to say, remember a late fee over $40.  That wasn’t thrifty at all!  So then we just stared buying them.  Now we have a ton of movies that we …read more

My 13 Tasks to do today aren’t very exciting or organized.

I recently came across a list of Who’s Yo Mama’s 13 tasks to do today and they were rated on the fun scale.  I thought it was an interesting way to look at her life.  Kuanyin lives in a beautiful paradise and yet still finds time to work.  How does she do it?!?!?
None the less, I decided to make a list of my 13 things to do today.  My list was very boring and generic and I had nothing I wanted to put higher on the fun scale other than picking up my little one.  The sad thing is that …read more
