Toys R Us is having a Thomas the Train day this Saturday, June 28th. There will be story time every half hour, Thomas the Train and friends wooden railway play table time, and coloring fun. Nothing like some free entertainment for your kids as long as you aren’t tempted to buy anything while you are there. This is very good advertising so be careful not to spend any money there. Keep it free!

November 16, 2007

Dear Valued Guest,

As we prepare to kick off the holiday shopping season, we know that the important issue of toy safety is on the minds of many parents. I wanted to take a moment today to reiterate to you our uncompromising commitment to the safety of the children and families we serve and to share with you some of the steps Toys”R”Us has taken in recent months to enhance our already high safety standards:

While we have always mandated that our manufacturers extensively test products for a variety of hazards, earlier this year, Toys”R”Us engaged Bureau Veritas, a respected world leader in independent testing, to re-test products right off our store shelves. We have alerted our manufacturers that we will report any safety violations we may find to the proper authorities. In addition, we have advised our manufacturers that they must now increase the frequency of testing for each shipment of toys sent to Toys”R”Us stores. Our message is clear: there is simply no place for unsafe toys on our store shelves. Failure to meet our safety requirements has consequences – up to and including termination of our business relationship
We believe that when a product is recalled, the most important thing is to get that product out of children’s hands. To that end, we have instituted a “no quibble” policy when it comes to toy recalls. This means Toys”R”Us will take back recalled product whether it was purchased at Toys”R”Us or not – with or without a receipt.
We are working in partnership with federal legislators to advocate for more funding and staffing for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the government regulator responsible for toys. We are also advocating for the introduction of production code stamping of products, so retailers and consumers can easily identify specific items should they be recalled.
As the toy authority, Toys”R”Us carries the broadest assortment of toys from 30 countries, including the United States. Whatever your gift needs this holiday season, our toy-trained staff can help you find the best gift for the child on your list. I encourage you to visit our Safety website, www.Toysrus.com/Safety, which we have updated to include helpful tips for safe toy shopping during the holiday season

As a company committed to children and families, we understand the trust you place in us to make sure the toys on our store shelves are safe. And, as a parent myself, I want you to know that our entire organization continues to work vigilantly on your behalf to ensure this is the safest of holiday seasons.

With Best Wishes to You and Your Loved Ones on behalf of the Toys”R”Us, Inc. Family,

Sincerely,

Gerald L. Storch
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Toys”R”Us, Inc.

Sounds like a good time to start your Christmas shopping for the kids. I also saw on their website that they are having a free shipping sale. Hurry, the sale ends Saturday, September 29th. And don’t forget to save your receipts!!!

(FYI – I like the You & Me dolls and accessories. Be careful with the Just Like Me home sets. Last year we bought the cash register, coffee maker, and stainless steel pots and pans and utensil set. Within a month the coffee maker came apart. Some of the stainless steel utensils looked dangerous and had to be put away. One of the handles on the pot feel off last week.)

Which toys are you looking at buying for Christmas?

September 12, 2007Dear Valued Guest,

As a father of five children, I understand the concerns parents have about product safety. And, as the CEO of the world’s largest toy and baby products retailer, I can assure you that nothing is more important to our company than the safety of children. It is at the heart of who we are as a company.

The issue of product safety goes well beyond business and directly to the well-being of the families we serve. We are wholly committed to our customers’ safety and have reiterated that simple, single fact to our suppliers and business partners. We will not tolerate products that do not meet our rigorous safety standards.

When it comes to the safety of children, the bar can never be too high, and we are constantly looking at ways to build on our already substantial safety efforts. That is why today we are announcing further improvements that will ensure you have access to even more rapid and detailed information on safety issues. These improvements include:

- A new Safety microsite at www.Toysrus.com/Safety to help you find all product safety and recall information;
- The introduction of an email notification system for product recalls;
- The addition of bilingual recall notices should there be future recalls; and
- The introduction of new Safety Boards in all of our stores, which will contain important product safety information, including recall notices

As the toy and baby products authority, we understand the unique role we play as the conduit between manufacturers and our customers. It is a role we take very seriously and requires our constant vigilance. On behalf of the entire Toys “R” Us, Inc. family, please know that we will continue to work tirelessly to guarantee we are doing everything we can to provide only the safest shopping environment for all families.

I managed to get out of the house for a while on Monday and stopped at Toys ‘R Us. Their clearanced toys were an additional 20% off and their clearanced summer clothes were an additional 40% off, which made most items 65-75% off. I managed to find a few bargains.
The Toys ‘R Us site also has a large selection of clearance merchandise.
Don’t forget to save your receipts. As I’ve mentioned before, Toys ‘R Us will not take anything back without a receipt.

Toys R Us has their crayola markers and crayons on sale for buy 1 get 2 free. My girlfriend got over $20 in markers and cutters for $10. She got a heck of a deal and will go back. They gave her a coupon to fill out an online survey for $3 off your next purchase so she is going back to get more markers and crayons for school. They run around $4 a piece so she will get 3 sets of crayons for around $1. What a great deal!
