A Thrifty Waffle House Wedding

My friend sent me an email today about a couple getting married in a Waffle House.  I checked it out and sure enough, it’s true.  Now you have a reason to smile today.  Let me know what you think.
Standing nearby, the father of the newly minted Mrs. Pamela Mathis, William Christopher, wondered if anyone had videotaped the ceremony. He wants to send it in to CMT.
“I think it’s pretty redneck myself,” he said, laughing. “But I’m a redneck anyway, so.”

How Much Have You Paid to Be in a Wedding?

I was listening to Candy and Potter today and they were talking about weddings.  Listeners were calling in and telling how much they’ve spent to be in someone’s wedding.  I listened for a while because my husband was just in a wedding last week.  The cost involved really hit home for me.
When my husband and I got married, I tried to be very considerate of other people’s expenses and I didn’t want to cause them any financial stress.  One of the ways that I did this was by choosing a dress pattern for the bridesmaids.  I bought the material and pattern for …read more

20 Ways to Save Money on Your Wedding

With the cold temperatures we’ve been having, I know it’s hard to imagine that spring and summer are just around the corner.  I’m sure some are thinking about or are already making plans for their special wedding day.  I thought this would be a good time to share some ways to save money.
 1.  Plan ahead.  I confess that I planned my wedding in just a few weeks.  (Yes, I was a nervous wreck.) Perhaps the short amount to plan helped me to prioritize really quickly.  Planning ahead gives you opportunities to think things through, to decide what you really want, and …read more

The Average Cost of a Wedding

I was listening to The Matt & Ramona Show today and they were talking about weddings.  Ramona said that the average cost of a wedding is $28,000.  I could hardly believe my ears.  I mean, I know the wealthy might spend that kind of money on their weddings, but do normal people really spend that much?
We spend less than $2500 on our wedding.  It can be done.  We didn’t have a grand reception at the country club or a 4-star hotel, but it was a nice wedding.
Given the new information I’ve heard today, I’ve created a poll.  Please vote and let us …read more

Ebay can help you plan your wedding without breaking your budget.

When I got married to my wonderful husband, we tried to have a nice wedding without breaking the bank.  My parents helped a little, but we still footed a little over half the bill.  I think this is wise for the most part.  If the bride and groom have to pay for a part of the costs, then the decisions will be more reasonable.  Although I still think we spent way too much, we had an evening, candlelit wedding with tons of food for 300+ guests for less than $5200.  Looking back, I still think that was too much money …read more
