Thrifty Mommy

Thanks to Our Veterans

flag clip art from discoveryI grew up in a military town and no, my dad wasn’t military.  Go figure.  You see, my mom’s dad and my dad’s stepdad were both in the military and my mom and dad met while their families were there.

Growing up in a military town brings in me a special patriotism.  Also, being married to a fella that served in the Marines kind of helps with that too.  ;)

My uncles, my hubby, and my late grandfathers all served their country.  I feel quite proud of them and the sacrifices they made.

Well, it’s late and I’m starting to ramble.  I just wanted to let our service men and women know how much we appreciate them.  You’re not forgotten.  We appreciate the sacrifices that you made for us.  I’m proud to be an American!

If you’d like to say something nice about your favorite military person or if you’d like to leave a general message to our military and veterans, please feel free to do so in our comments section.  Thanks!

Oops. I also forgot to put that my father-in-law served.

Thanks for writing about veterans. My Dad is a WWII Veteran of the 10th Mtn Division, and I had the great pleasure of attending his veteran’s group luncheon today. I write a column for AARP about family issues, and this month I wrote about Veteran’s Day (http://www.aarp.org/family/articles/goyer_honoring_vets_in_your_family.html). I read my column to them today, and it was so humbling to see these great men who’ve seen it all sit there and cry openly as I shared my message honoring them. I’m so proud of my Dad, and so grateful for what his generation did all those years ago. After the meeting, one of the gentleman cried and cried and said it meant so much to him to be remembered – to know that family understand and care about what they did at their young age that effected them the rest of their lives.

So if you have a family member or a neighbor who is a veteran, just say thank you. It can make a huge difference in their lives. :)

    Amy
