You really don’t think about where your money goes until you realize it’s disappearing on little things like Slurpees. Reading your article makes me want to keep track of every penny I spend, even though I am only a senior in high school. It’s a good idea, because knowing where you money goes is something you SHOULD keep track of.

Yep, his money does have to be going somewhere. I have just about lost patience with people like that. I have some friends that make double or triple what we make and they have no money. Yet it seems each time I talk to them on the phone, they’re talking about going here, there, and everywhere, or they’re at the store. I believe in doing things with my kids, but I don’t believe it has to cost much (or any) money. And if you take your kids on a special outing, a souveneir is not a given. I wrote an article on that one last year. Ok, it’s obviously late because I’m rambling!

we use to do this and for the most part now we basically know where all our money goes. Course I’m a coffee (frap from Starbucks) drinker which means I probably spend at LEAST $15 a week on drinks.

It has been awhile since I and my family did the writing down of every penny but as you say once you have learned what you are spending, you can adjust and don’t really need to keep such close track — though I usually pick a month now and then and go through the exercise just to make sure we are ‘on track’
