Americans eat too much salt and eating too much salt can causesalt high blood pressure!  Most of us know that high blood pressure can cause heart disease and other health problems.

Most of our sodium intake comes from processed and packaged foods.  Sodium is the part that increases blood pressure.

Health experts recommend 1,100 – 3,300 mg of sodium per day for healthy adults, yet most people eat 2,300 to 6,900 mg per day. This is way too much sodium!!!!

Controlling your sodium intake can reduce your chances of getting high blood pressure.  High blood pressure is a reading of more than 140/85.

It is important that you check your blood pressure often.  Also, remember that exercise can also help lower and stabilize your blood pressure.

I found a recipe for a salt-free herb blend.  You might want to give it a shot.  Don’t forget to keep an eye on food labels.

Salt-Free Herb Blend

Use this blend on food you would normally use salt. Fill the salt shaker and shake until your heart is content. You can find inexpensive, bulk, dried herbs in the produce section of the grocery store.

5 teaspoons onion powder
2-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
2-1/2 teaspoons sweet paprika
2-1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
1-1/2 teaspoons thyme
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional*)

Combine ingredients and mix well. Spoon into a shaker. Makes 1/3 cup.

*Fiery spices do not raise blood pressure. A small amount of ground red pepper can enhance the flavor of food without making it taste too hot.

I think the writer who said that you just need to stop dieting and eat healthy is right. I think we need to learn with our emotions and eat what we KNOW is healthy and the portions we KNOW are right and throw in some exercise and water and we\’re on …
