Thrifty Deals on School Supplies

schoolIt seems like school just ended, but it will be back in session before you know it.  This is the time of year when school supplies get really, really cheap!  I’m having a flashback from You’ve Got Mail where Meg Ryan tells Tom Hanks that she likes to shop for school supplies.  She likes the smell of them.  LOL  Sorry to get off track.

Right now you can find 24 pks of crayons for 10 cents a pack, glue for 9 cents a bottle, and pencils for as low as 1 cent a pack!  Isn’t it crazy?  Stores are fighting for your business and you can take advantage of it.

I remember when I was growing up, my mom would buy all of our school supplies for the whole year.  I do the same thing now; I take advantage of back to school specials and get what I need for an entire year.  I also buy enough stuff to use in my shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.  Hint, hint, wink, nudge.

Right now, Staples is running a 1 cent sale.  Here’s what they have:

  • school2Dixon yellow No. 2 pencils, 8/pack (limit 3)
  • 2 pocket-folder with or w/o fasteners (limit 10)
  • Slider pencil case, assorted colors (limit 3)
  • Staples manual pencil sharpener (limit 3)
  • .09 cents Elmer’s school glue (limit 3)
  • 3 for .99 cents Simply 1 0r 1/2 inch flexible plastic ring binders (Limit 6)

Tell us about the great deals you’ve found on school supplies.  Where are the best deals?

Thanks to my friend Karen for the tips. Pictures from homeroomteacher.com and apples4theteacher.com.

I am going to raid Staples today. I have a leftover balance on a gift card there so I’ll be buying school supplies with it! The only thing better than cheap supplies is FREE supplies.
I, too, buy extras. We send in one complete set of supplies on Day 1 of the School Year for another child who needs them. Give like you have plenty, as the song says.

  2. I NEED to put a note in my outlook regarding Samaritan’s Purse, every year, I hear about it or think about it when it is too late for me to meet the deadlines. Not this year- I am heading over to my outlook now. -Michelle Smart not Cheap

Michelle: Samaritan’s Purse is one of my favorite organizations to give to. I know that most of the kids that receive these gifts have probably never received a gift before. It’s a pleasure to give them their first pencil, toothbrush, etc. I’m glad you’ll be participating this year.

I was on my 2nd trip to Staples today to buy up what I could. The cashier told me that someone had come in saying they were buying up for Samaritan’s Purse. I kind of chuckled, since I had read it here too.

For us, my older son’s birthday is next month. We are asking that instead of gifts, everyone bring school supplies to donate to a local charity. Thus my reason for buying them up!

Oh, they were already sold out of glue and pencil boxes!

    One more visit tomorrow….

  1. [...] A few months ago, I told you that I donate filled shoeboxes to Samaritan’s Purse for Operation Christmas Child.  I’m sure many of you have heard of this and some of you probably participate in this annual event. [...]
