Thrifty Lunch On the Go

Peanut butter makes a cheap lunch. When we’re running all over the place, it can be really tempting to stop somewhere and grab something to eat. However, getting even the cheapest lunches from the fast food joints can really add up if you do this several times a week. Besides, fast food is really unhealthy.

What I do is prepackage things ahead of time. I wash and bag grapes or bag up servings of cookies or crackers. It is so much easier to make a quick sandwich when everything else is ready to go or simply do without the sandwich and have cheese cubes.

If you didn’t pack a lunch, you may want to head to the grocery store instead of the fast food joint. Picking up a bag of chips, a package of fruit drinks, a loaf of bread and a jar of honey peanut butter is still cheaper than going through the drive thru and you’ll have some stuff left over for other meals.

What do you do when you are out and the kids get hungry?

I spend a little more on prepackaged lunch meats but like you said, it is significantly cheaper then eating out…my kids don’t like bread sandwiches so I just pack some of the meat and grab a few cheese sticks, make some chocolate milk in spill-proof cups and off we go. It is fast, easy to prepare, package and eat!!!
